KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- A Malaysian man has been booked by police for driving his Toyota Corolla at more than half the speed of sound.

Resort caretaker New Ching Shit told the Star newspaper he had received a summons to appear in court this month after police recorded him driving along a stretch of highway close to his home at 773kmh (480 miles per hour).

He told the paper he was amazed that police believed his family car was capable of such speeds.

Nonetheless he said police were determined to press charges.

What a great name!

Did you hear about the Northumberland mobile laser speed trap that caught a vehicle doing 800mph, turned out to be a low flying Tornado whose defensive systems had picked up the laser tracking radar system and was locking it's anti-radar missile on to it before the pilot stopped it.

Whatever, but the really disturbing part about this story is that the cops are determined to prosecute him.
They obviously believe implicitly their speed measuring devices, rather than common sense.

Friend of mine in an escort got "clocked" at 230MPH by a radar toting copper. When i say escort i mean B reg rustbucket that could barley do NSL!

Again, it actually went to court, the magistrate threw it out when they saw the car.....

True, but I'd just love for it to happen. Revenge would be so sweet!

Wasnt there an incident similar to this, in which a Reliant Robin driver was snapped for over 140mph?
The courts threw it out.
Until a mechanic discovered a tuned SR20DET under the hood

Never let truth ruin a really good rumour, particularly not one that good...

Hmmm, 20,000 members of PH, some of whom are quite well off.

I reckon we could afford a fully armend Mig off the russians... Patrol the country searching for talivans.

I'd love to see the looks on their faces when they realised how much destructive power was staring back at them!

I had an idea along these exact lines.

Edited so I don't get arrested as a terrorist. I had a great big long post about something (which I will not say) but after reading this:
www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=31119&f=10&h=0
I decided to remove it.

Oh well so much for the freedom os speech to joke about things

Anyone notice that the man's surname was "Shit"?

Anyway, I recently had a ticket thrown out due to radar gun inaccuracy. I took the judge for a ride up I-190 and convinced him that my almost-as-old-as-I-am Honda CRX could not possibly have done 171 MPH.

Andy's scared me now...

If you really can't say this sort of thing, even when surrounded by 'smileys' of aeroplanes and in the obviously pub-like banter that exists in places on this thread I despair for this country.

Mad if you're reading, what are the penalties for this kind of offence?

n.b, for anyone of 'delicate sensitivities' reading this, yes, I really am joking. I do not condone the killing of anyone - specially over something as trivial as speed cameras, and especially with an imported fighter jet bought with donations from a motoring website... I'd even go as far to say that I'm damn glad I don't live in an area of Britain where someone is running round with explosives!

Edited to add : I think I'm in the clear as I didn't actually invite anyone to provide money, or intice them to, just elaborated on an earlier theme.

Yellow?

Me?

Nah!

Ted,

Can we all get a massive disclaimer to automatically follow our posts to tell the readers that everything we say is not true.

You may want to rephrase your post a little; "Not everything said on PH is true" rather than "everything said on PH is not true"

I would but the it would not highlight my point in the sarcastic manner it did.

I was wondering what sort of punishment the offence carries. I just had another read through, but couldn't see that particular info.

Maybe I've missed it? It's been a rough week...
