If the Licence expired 30.Sept then get it re-taxed as soon as possible like yesterday.
Licence offence has to be reported to DVLA for them to authorise Court action and if above applies then when they get the Form reporting said offence and check their records they may well find that a Licence has been taken out and NFA.
But if other than above max penalty for using without is £1000 or 5 times the amount of duty payable which ever is the greater. Plus any back duty(VERA 1994)
No mention of being slapped witha fail to display a current Licence - max fine £200
No points involved.

No offence of failing to declare SORN but if not done and vehicle not taxed over a month from expiry thengives DVLA power demand an £80 supplement (reduced to £40 for early payment)

statutory off road notification , but if you have told the dvla your car is off the road and it isnt then this may invalidate your insurance however i havent heard a case of this type so dont quote me , why do we need tax discs anyway the a.n.p.r. can instantly tell a friendly officer if you have tax insurance mot who are we displaying them for ! traffic wardens?
I am amazed, someone actually being done for not having a current tax disk, wow I thought they only did that for newspaper stories! Apparently (according to our local rag), 18 cars were taken off the road the other week for not have tax, then other half decides to report a car being used with a 6 month out of date tax disk in the window, local police don't want to know and neither did the DVLA, blimey he was handing a nasty criminal to them on a plate and they were'nt interestd.

3 months ago, I used that method to report an untaxed motorhome, parked in a cul-de-sac, with front tyres down to the wires. It's been there longer than I can remember. Result? Zilch!
Sussex Police have an automated phone system fir this, asks for the reg number etc so I reported one car on it cursing as I had more than one to report, however there was the equivalent of a comments box for the last question so I just said there were another half a dozen in the immediate area. Within 48 hours they had all gone.
My guess is they were all associated with a local garage, and that reminds me must check if any are back!

It's the council you need to tell - they'll turn up 5 mins previously when they hear about this sort of thing!Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
