Posted this on general gassing and was told to put in on here also by Gently Bently.

Ok, iv'e been back in Swansea for just over 2 weeks with my new pride and joy, my pug 205 GTI. This year is supposed to be filled with spending money on my car and making it the best it can be on my budget.

Now, my student house is very nice but the area isn't, kids outside are always hanging round our cars up untill the small hours.

Cars drive down the hill that is my road at speeds far in excess of 25-30mph.

I get a phone call today only to find that someone has driven into my car, but not sure when it was done (parked directly outside my house) and driven off. Not a lot of damage at all- a smashed indicator and a cracked and dented front wing. This is not expensive i hear you say? well its not but i have no money and have already got other bits to replace on my car and this has just added to the list.

I am just annoyed more than anything as i poured all my money into buying and insuring this car and some pratt comes along drives into it and drives off.

Anywho not much i can do but i needed to vent my anger, why cant people just apologise, pay for the damage and job done. Too idealistic i guess.

Sorry to hear that. Nasty thing to come home to.

No witnesses I take it?

What insurance have you got? Is it TPFT or FC?

If TPFT, is there any comeback through the Motor Insurance Bureau? (I think that's what it's called, the central insurance fund to cover drive offs, uninsureds etc.)

...and be glad you weren't stood in front of it with head under bonnet checking the oil... every cloud etc...

No witnesses that i know of. I have fully comp insurance but dont want to loose my first year of no claims so am not going through the insurers. Yeah glad i wasnt near the car but beleive me if i was under the bonnet it wouldnt put anybody off speeding round here.

Late home from work. The troops all agreed MIB seem to be the main people who can help you out. Number in the book or on the web I think.

Cheers

www.mib.org.uk try giving them a look. I asked a guy at work who said he had dealt with them when a disqualified driver hit several parked cars. The bad guy was unemployed so could not be sued. MIB stumpped up the dosh. Afraid I could not find much more than that.

That's what I thought. I tried them when I was rear-ended by a car on false plates (no insurance on it naturally). In the end, my ins co paid and it went down as a fault accident against me.

Nope damage & injury, but they are only a last resort where a claim can't be made against any other source.

agreed they are the last resort but I can't see any other way of helping our student friend out of this one.

Cheers for the help guys, will take a look at the mib site tommorow. As there was only a small amount of damage i will probably stump up for the parts myself as to not get in a mess with the situation.

Reported it to the police on wednesday, the receptionist said i was right to report it as i was unsure if i would or not but i still havent heard from them so i guess as it happend over night with no witnesses not much will happen.

Again cheers for the support as i have just been angry/frustrated more than annything.

A big thumbs up to Mr Bently for all his help
