Speed limit signs on road surface?
Discussion
Apologies if this has already been raised, but the search engine is out of action at the moment. We are surrounded in rural East Sussex by roads which were previously NSL but now carry 40mph signs, but ONLY on the road surface. Not built up areas, no lights, no repeater signs, just large white "40" on the road surface.
Is this stricly legal?

This practice of adding a shed load of paint to the road surface boils my piss. I ride a motorbike, and road paint is pretty slippy when it's wet. Nice to see the new 40mph regime contributing to safety.
Sorry to divert from the topic of legality of the paint
but I'm beginning to think that the big red letter "C" that I find plastered across some corners in London actually stands for Crash!

but I'm beginning to think that the big red letter "C" that I find plastered across some corners in London actually stands for Crash! this is very true on my most favourite B road of all - the B2026 which is a real stormer if the times and condtions are right. id be interested to hear if the circles on the road are actaully legally obligating - not that I ever pay too much attention - but it would be nice to have a leg to stand on should I get a pull.
B2026, one of the very roads I was thinking of. Apparently some of the locals felt 60mph was a dangerous speed for us to be travelling where their sheep were wandering onto the road.
Surely the question shouldn't be "Is 60 a dangerous speed?" but "Isn't it
dangerous to allow your
sheep to venture onto the Queens highway?"
