Got 3 points way back in February 2002, have lived at the same address and have had no letters from the police to let me know that they have been taken off, looked around the net and found

www.traffic-answers.com/speeding.htm#valid

that suggests 3 years for points to be kept and 4 years for admin reason, seeing that it is over the 4 years, would someone contact me (as they have not) and if i got some more points would they be automatically removed ?

Nobody will contact you to remove old points. It is up to you !!

After 4 years you can either leave them on or apply to DVLA, and pay for a new licence to get them removed.

If you get more points, the old ones stay until you renew and pay for a new licence.

I think for some offences like dring driving, it is 10 years before the points can be removed.

ok cheers for that, some plod had to write the endorsement on the paper copy, but only use the card version as the paper version has been misplaced no problems with car hire so far.

with the amount of miles i do, always possible to get more points and not want to pay for a new clean licence just in case....

Edit - already got the 2 part licence, the paper part is someplace in the loft, but never use it, just use the card in the wallet

If you happen to be Changing Address in the near future the points are also removed (and there isn't a charge for the replacement), even if the move happens to be only temporary..

yeah 3 years, then removed after 4. I wouldnt bother getting them removed as you will end up with the scrap 2 part new license.

Out of interest a copper I used to house share with once told me that they are not allowed to unfold your license to look at the points table without you permision, so bare that in mind if pulled and they ask to see you license - if its true of course - sure one of the PH plods could clarify
