The government is facing a legal challenge from thousands of motorists

A Government Moron said:
We will try to make it as difficult and as expensive as possible for anyone to challenge us in the courts. Even though these drivers might have been wrongly penalised due to a technicality, we would use the moral argument that they were potentially endangering lives by ignoring a red light.

This is level crossings we are talking about? The ones with trains?.

Sorry but no sympathy for anyone caught actually jumping a red light. Don't think its fair to play with other peoples lives. We are talking a technicality in approval not in the actual commission of the offence.

Don't disagree in the slightest about people jumping crossings but I think you'll find that someone (Bryan35?) has already posted the situation re the crossing at Carnaby nr Bridlington where the timing of the lights, barriers and camera trigger seemed a bit dodgy if as described.

Can't provide a link to previous post as the search facility is in limbo.

Maybe I should be more trusting of the government but I would bet that there are other red light cameras that have been signed off by the wrong department.

I also have no sympathy for red-light jumpers but too often I've seen ones with really dodgy timings.

Problem with these devices is there's not usually much to corroborate with them, if there is then there's no problem. It's not difficult - record 2 secs before the light goes red, and keep recording until it goes green, if anyone crosses the white line store the recording and potential issue NIP, otherwise bin the recording repeat ad infinitum. (Just like the sort of thing in a car ECU, recording 30 secs of data on a loop until "an event" and then storing only the last 30 secs.
