Most of us are agreed that devices that help to utilise information already in the public domain are a good thing. I have such a device in my car. First, it simply tells me when I am approaching an area where there is enforcement. Then it tells me when I am approaching.

Read in the paper today that they believe Mr Ladyman (with his 9 points) has gotten himself a speed camera detector. Anyone else heard this?
What he has is not a 'detector', it's a camera locator based on GPS technology. I can 'detect' nothing that is not already programmed in.
There is confusion about this, but it's very clear. If the position of a camera is in the public domain and it has been programmed into some sort of GPS-based device it's legal. If it relies upon just the scatter from the device itself, it's not legal.

thought that was common knowledge it came to light during the earlier readings of the new road thiingy bill
It may well be, I just hadn't heard.
Strange it is not all over the news then. Somewhat hypocritical of the "safety" minister to have such a unit. Surely he will, in the interests of safety, always obey speed limits and thus have no need for any such item.......
