unmark police car how do they record your speed
Discussion
i know its my fault for speeding. but yesterday i got pulled over for speeding. and i just fix my car so taken out for a spin. and a empty dural carrage way. i but my foot down then back off. but a unmark police car was following me. he pulled me over and show me the video. the speed in the video. is that my speed or his speed catching me up. because i know i but my foot down but the vido says i went faster then i thought. so seeing how they work there speed out.
Assuming you were shown the usual 'Provida' video the speed is on the right hand side of the video .... the speed 'changing' is the police cars speed - and that will not display if the car has not been recently calibrated.
If the officer followed you for 3/10ths of a mile and you were clearly over the limit the officers evidence would usually say how far they followed you for and what your speed varied between. Ideally they should match your speed but if they can't catch you or, with a limit of 70 and the police car already doing an indicated 80 you are clearly pulling away significantly then that would be sufficient as the offence is only exceeding the limit.
The officer and a calibrated speedo is also, in itself, sufficient to report a driver for exceeding the speed limit (as are two officers in the car following you - though rarely used and not liked at all by the CPS).
The other way to get a speed would be via a system such as 'Police Pilot' or 'Vascar' where you are timed between two fixed points - in the case of the systems used in our cars this is now via the video system within "Provida 2000' and again, will not work at all unless the system has been calibrated. The speed obtained using this method is uaually kept on the screen as it contains all the time / speed / distance details and is visible for the driver concerned. This speed, once obtained, does not alter.
Hope this assists.
