Any advice on this one would be gratefully received

Moved house in sept, usual chaos that goes with that

Used my old van (Nissan Vanette) to help shift stuff, trouble is this is getting a bit past it, (ok a lot past it). So when tax ran out at end sept decided to get rid, probably to scrapper. BUT in move the V5 has gone awol, and yes I know I need to change address, can't do that either if I can't find it. Yes I know I can get a duplicate by using a V62 from post office, but that takes 4-6 weeks, and I can't apply for duplicate online coz there has been a change of details. So the question is, can I scrap the vehicle without a V5?

Help?

(Need to get rid reasonably fast, need space for kit car that I am intending to buy)

Road Vehicle (Reg & Lic) Regs 2002
17. Where a vehicle is destroyed or sent permanently out of -
(a) Great Britain; or
(b) Northern Ireland,
the registered keeper shall immediately notify the Secretary of State of the fact and, at the same time, surrender the registration document to him.

Letter of notifcation to DVLA will have to explain why no V5 enclosed.

As stated some personal identification will be required by the Scrappie - he has regs to comply with too under Scrap Metal dealers Act.

Make sure that you have SORNed the vehicle while you sort things out or you will get an early Christmas card to your old address inviting you to pay £80 for your oversight. I believe that you can SORN on line if you are the registered keeper.
