This is an excerpt from a speech that Mitchell Romney, Governor of Massachusetts, gave Saturday.

"I believe that we are wasting our time and money enforcing several useless laws. In addition to slowing commerce and providing a smoke-screen that clouds our judgement regarding highway accidents, the highway speed limit as it stands now erodes respect for honest laws. The safety benefits of a low speed limit have been negated by the almost universal noncompliance of drivers. Therefore, I present to the public this idea: that we raise rural highway speed limits to 100 miles per hour and instead let the highway patrol do its job, which is to patrol the highways in search of dangerous conditions and drivers. It's only an idea at this point, but it's one worth trying."

good man, unfortunately, in this country, the only exception to that breath of fresh air is the fact that, unlike our American cousins, we have scameras and the government is making money not wasting it

Very interesting indeed. I like that idea.

You have to wonder though, if they increased the limits to 100 would the numpties drive any differently? (42mph?)

lets face it, would you rather they did 42 in a 55, or 42 in a 100? i know whinch i'd pick...

at least you wouldn't be liable of prosecution after simply overtaking them. little by little they might see sense. slowly slowly catchee monkey.
