Quick Q to the BiB among us. Is there anywhere I can find out vehicle theft figures and the make and model of cars, TWOC'd? Just to settle a little "Discussion" in our household! Cheers.

Cheers DV. That does help me a bit.

I'm basically trying to prove to the old man that Impreza's and Evo's aren't the most stolen car. I accept that they have got that image about them, and they are a desireable car in the eyes of getaway drivers and such like. But my old man tends to watch Sky Cops, see's an evo or scoob on there, and is expecting that if I get one there will a line up of thugs with sawn off's queueing down the road to nick it! He actually believed the rumour that every single Lotus Carlton has been stolen!

Oh. Well the only person I know who owned a Scooby was dragged out of his and the car was then used in a ram raid. They actually caught the guys, my mate (and everyone else involved) got messed around big time by the Police & CPS and they ended up dropping the case.

Can I ask how long a go this was, and was the car then relativelty new? Only reason I ask is that it always seems to be new cars that are stolen on fly on the wall doc's. Also by me I can think of at least 5 Impreza's, an Evo and a RS6, and most are always on the drive. Just seems to me that at least one of them would of gone by now if crims are nicking anything fast.

It was a few years ago now - 4 perhaps. And the car was a few years old even then. He sold it afterwards pretty cheaply but had a lot of probs getting shut because the sort of people who were interested (young lads) struggled to get affordable insurance.

On my third scooby now. Never any problem. This ine, and the last one, both STi which comes standard with tracker, so this might make them slightly less favoured as a getaway vehicle, I suspect.

yesI know this is just anecdotal evidence, but I've had a 97 scooby for 4 years now, it's parked on the road and I've never had a problem.

I've heard stories of crims knowing where the trackers are fitted, so just rip em out once there in the car.

Jwo, just read your story, there was a bit of an epedimic apparently of Scoobs having bits stolen from them in the Midlands, especially P1's (which I'm looking to get). Think they probably ended up on flea-bay, or some chavs wrx.

xanderjones, same happening in beds/bucks, audis and bmws being nicked for body kits, guess they thought mighty vauxhall power was easy target (although they went to a heck of a lot of trouble, and were professional (sic)) the best form of car alarm would definitly be a time delayed boomb just to make sure the scrote got badly maimed (or jigsaw to kneecap!!)

the 'old car' list is interesting, i always thought the escort was the most stolen car, especially the older ones with ford's fantastic locks that could be opened by pretty much any ford key. the orion is surely some sort of anamoly, they aren't really THAT common

and who in their right minds would steal a montego or a maestro? (even a rover one, which would be unique)

eliminator - yep was found in that lovely place called luton. Bibs had it recovered with 5hrs of calling tracker, even got the Beds police chopper out! Scumbags were wise and had scarpered beforehand. Only damage was to door lock, ignition and removal of alarm siren etc. Hadn't been driven - had jsut begun disassembling it (one xenon out and front bumper off)

Different parts fof the country suffer this problem Kent has just seen a little team released near the kent / london border who they put away last year who were very active. Another team that was hitting Sevenoaks and London are awaitng trial. Unfortunately the prison terms are an utter joke. The thefts tend to be close to large towns and the offenders tend to although working in small teams often come from the same area and as such it limits the range they travel.

Lots of opinions on how they locate the cars.

On my second scooby, and ( touch wood ) never had a problem. Both mine are ( or were ) older, which helps, as does the ( touch wood ) very quiet cul de sac in which we live and the tall fence / front garden layout which means you cannot see what is parked on the driveway from the road. However, I really don't think they are any more likely to give you trouble than any other desirable car.
