Wendover bypass
Discussion
I live in Wendover while not at uni. The police round there are out to make money.
They made the mistake of not making the bypass a dual carrigeway, so now its a very wide straightish peice of road. Unfortunatly some people were killed in a head on collision around xmas and speed was to blame, so now they are cracking down. From what i have read in the local papers they won't be putting fixed cameras in as they prefer the element of surprise (read as hiding behind bushes)So be careful! A friend or a friend was caught at 116mph down there and lost his license for six months.

I didn't know they were operating camera vans along the bypass! Was it visible? I had better watch my speed next time I'm on that stretch of road cos its easy to get carried away!!!

Head on collision? Surely the fact that one vehicle must have been on the wrong side of the road was to blame?
From what I've seen each "side of the road" is about 2 lanes wide! With drivers taking at least 3 different lines in most places!!!!!
This really should be a dual carriageway with central reservation, it would then be a greater contributor to road saftey than the occasional speed trap!
There is a bend on the bypass that reduces visibility, the crash (if it's the same one) happened on the bend - two overtaking vehicles travelling in opposite directions.
The sorry thing about it is that there is plenty of room for four cars to travel abreast along the stretch of road - but it is quite common for slow moving vehicles to sit in the middle of their massively wide lane forcing overtaking cars to take a much wider line than is necessary.
I've got several friends who have been done for 70mph along the bypass recently - usually on the straight, clear run at the northern end of the bypass.
It would be good to see some revision of the road markings along the bypass to allow controlled overtaking, and perhaps some targeting of cars overtaking into the blind bend at high speed - afaik none of the current crackdown actually targets the dangerous bit of the road. I would like to proved wrong.....but I'm not holding my breath.

Last one I heard about there was two people overtaking in opposite directions and the traffic on one side just moved across too far to give them both the rrom they needed.
Room they needed? They were overtaking on a blind bend = stupid. This is now causing problems for us all with these mobile traps (OK, we shouldn't be speeding anyway ...)
I always wait until the straight bits before passing anyone 'cos I don't trust anyone to 'move over' for me. Same applies for the straight bits of the A355 a few miles South past Great Missendon - so many people drive down the middle here expecting everyone to move over for them, kids on board - stupidly scarey IMO. This is where the police should be stopping people for silly driving.

I think people driving in the middle road doesn't help but i still can't think why they didn't make it a dual carriageway. At the minute with such a wide road they're just inviting people to put their foot down.(But then they can catch you speeding) The motorbikes are the worst, quite often they come past on the back wheel espically on the short section by the garden centre.
