This morning on my way to work, I was victim of a crazy-lady!

Single-lane A-road with a limit of 60mph. I came up behind a car doing 45-50mph. I waited and a good, clear stretch of road opened up, so I changed down and overtook...which is when the river of the car went nuts! Lights flashing, arms waving etc!

I just thought, "Okaaaaay..." and went on my merry way. Up ahead the road turned into 2 lanes for a roundabout, where I saw her come up behind, with a pen and paper (whilst driving I might add), writing down the details of my car! She drew alongside with her window down and started yelling at me for speeding, saying she was going to the police station NOW, with my details!

Obviously she is not the full picnic - I am a long way from being a boy-racer and I was also a long way from speeding (other than the fluctuation on overtake). I can understand her issues if she believed the speed limit to be lower than it was (hence her 45-50 I suppose), but WTF?!??!

I am now really worried that she is about to go to the police and get my registration on file as being some crazy maniac.

Should I phone the police first?

Should I forget about it and not worry?

Should I expect a knock at the door from the cops tonight?!?

Is this what we can expect these days? RX8 + overtake = speeding-crazy-driver???? Is this the inevitable result of the press coverage that 'speeding=death' is getting?

Any advice welcomed!

You could try going to the police first, but they will just tell you to go away. Expect her to follow through, and expect some form of communication unless the complaint is dealt with by someone sensible. Deny everything, politely, and it should all go away.

I would also point out to any officer, should one call, that she was writing your information whilst driving and you would like her prosecuted. Plus her waving arms and flashing of lights. Prosecute her.

Using pen + note paper whilst driving, clearly dangerous driving IMO.

I really am utterly gob-smacked at the whole thing. I was not tailgating, I did not overtake at a dangerous point (nothing else on the road!) I also did not cut in sharply after the manoeuvre.

Sounds silly, but I am really worried that my current run of appalling luck is going to continue because of some crazy woman in a Micra!

I have witnessed some utterly awful driving and speeding in my time and I have also made my own share of mistakes ('Oops, that gap is not as big as I thought' for example - like we ALL have at some point when driving for 15 years), but to be made to feel as nervous as this over absolutely nothing, is bizarre!

so what evidence do she have apart from her view you were speeding? If plod contact you tell it how it was, she was holding up traffic and you overtook her... whats wrong with that?

The only person who broke the law was her for writing your plates down whilst driving, mention that if you ever hear anything about this!

Her word against yours = no contest, forget it. She was probably applying her lipstick, you overtook which startled her and made her draw a red line across her face.

if she wants to resort to stereotype................

Also ask them how fast you could have been going if she was able to keep up with you whilst writing.
If you were speeding then she must have been too.

I would like to hope that the local plod would tell her to bugger off...but then I am never convinced on any given day, that common sense will be applied to these situations.

(before anyone thinks I am griping at the roz here - I am related to two of them! )

Actually, there is a thought - I may ask the bro-in-law for his opinion tonight.

There's a serious point in this sort of thing.
Many folks just don't know what the speed limits are for single-carriageway NSL, dual carriageway NSL and for heavy vehicles on motorways.
How many times have you followed some old biddy on an NSL single-carriageway at 45mph. Then you both go through a village with a 30mph limit, and the biddy just carries on at 45mph?
I asked just such a chap a long time ago, having followed him to the local supermarket.
"What do you think the speed limit is on....Road, mate?"

Not a clue. Didn't know what the sign (/) meant, at all. Didn't have that when he passed his test 45 years ago.

I agree. And so does my wife.

I have heard her say many a time, that if the government were serious about speed limits and in this day of making it a crime against humanity if you stray over them, why have they not replaced all '/' (NSL) signs with a regular numbered version??

Is the cost of doing this really that huge?

If speed is the demon, why leave it up to guesswork or the requirement of extensive knowledge of the road and it's classification? Why not change the signs and TELL US?

Too simple, I wonder?

I reckon that plod may pop round to see you for a 'word'

Invite them in, be polite, even put the kettle on.

You haven't actually done anything wrong, so what's the problem.

Someone telling the truth never deviates because the truth is, well, the truth!

Think about it, the manic woman, reporting you, telling a story completely 'fatted' out with her own opinion and emotions, with no real 'meat' as it where,
and you, the calm motorist, telling the truth.

If she does it this time, no doubt she's done it before and will do it again, and there a pattern starts to develop!. think about it.

You should have told her that the plates are fake as you had just stole the car and bid her good day in a cloud of tyre smoke.

She should actually think herself lucky it was me and not someone who would chase her down and road rage her for being a loonie.
