Just start by saying I’m not trying to have a go at the police. I’m genuinely interested as to what was going on.

Driving down the A19 today (NSL, Dual carriageway) spotted a traffic car, nothing unusual in that but it was on a long straight, sunny day, dry roads and no traffic (I was the only car on that stretch of road). I was doing 70 and slowed a touch on spotting it but he still aimed the radar gun at me.

On the way back up I saw 2 traffic cars parked on a bridge, a police bike at the next junction and a bit further up the road a traffic car that had pulled in a BMW.

So is it a coincidence that there was so many traffic police on that road or do the police plan to target a road?
If they plan to target a road how do they decide which one? The accident rate on that road is no worse that any other dual carriageway and there are far worse stretches of that road.
I thought the police were meant to be able to judge the speed a car is travelling at so why did he check my speed?

That road has had a fair number of bad crashes (though not a huge number, but too many). It *HAS* definitely been targetted previously, there were a HUGE number of police on that road the night The Riverside hosted the England v Slovakia game (thankfully I was forewarned) - and speed cameras on a bridge.

The police tend to have a car parked up in the garages near the A1, watching from a pretty hidden point the cars approaching, ready to tail anything suspiscious or overly quick...so you just need to be cautious around there - and obviously the stretch near the mucky duck (Black Swan, Potto turn off) that has had a lot of improvements done, was a blackspot.

Usually though the A19 (from A1 to A174) moves along nicely, and is nice and refreshing after cruising up the M1 in heavy traffic.

Sounds like the ANPR van was partked somewhere and the additional troops further down the road as 'long stops'.

Roadbridge over A.19 at Knayton favourite place.

That sounds about right. I joined the road a bit further down the road from the Knayton bridge. Had been using the backroads from Sutton bank. Spotted the cars/bikes between joining and the Cleveland Tontine turn off.

Indeed. Another of the 'great lies' shown up.

The meeting of Doughnut Munchers Anonymous was an ANPR Op. They're on that stretch of road on a regular basis.

I've also seen TrafPol doing live training on that road with 2 or 3 marked Volvos chasing an unmarked Octavia RS. They generally put a rolling roadblock in to give themselves room to box in the target car. Very interesting to watch
