A guy here (Aberdeen) has just been clocked at 156.7 MPH on the A90 in an M3. He was already banned and obviously had no insurance...hope he likes porridge.

Interestingly the previous 'record' was also on the A90, 155MPH in a Porker.

..sorry meant to be Scottish speeding record I think, I read about about a German caught at 170 in a 928 a few years back, claimed he forgot he was in England.

If that's a UK record I'm a ballet dancer. Whilst sticking to appropriate speed limits I've seen cars similar in appearance to mine doing what I'd guess to be more than that.

Also some bloke in the early nineties got caught in a supercharged AMG 560 SEC Mercedes doing 170mph. It came out in court that he actually had a dragster racing licence.

Zorro.

I forgot about the german 928 driver.

Considering your roads in Scotland I'm surprised some of our two wheeled warriors haven't been caught a little higher up the speeding scale.

I would imagine that any higher up would make 'em harder to catch

Blimey, all credit to the guy for:

a) finding more than 400yards of the A90 that doens't have roadworks.

b) avoiding the weekly accident closure

c) actaully getting above 90 without having to slow down for a lorry/corsa/tractor/cat/numpty every half mile.

I think the dragster guy in the Merc was John Welland and Mr Naggata was doing 198mph on the A1. Somebody I know who has a car just like mine only managed 150mph on that four lane stretch on Xmas day, I was miles away though!!!!!

As far as I know, the highest speeds recorded by the Police have been set by bikers.

There was one in Scotland 3-4 years ago caught at 179mph.

As an ex-scouser now living "the dream" in our sourthern office, Australia, this argument is very dubious about who got the highest speeding fine (reported). This takes me back to 1988 when a chap from Alsager near Crewe, on an FZR750, clocked 170 odd on the A49. At the time this was considered heroic by me and my mates who tried in vain to emulate this feat of derring do on many a night on our local busway in Runcorn, Cheshire. Now if I got caught on that road by the numptys in my 1992 turboed-nitroused 2.3 Prelude I would have easily cracked that speed fine! Ah happy days! By the way, I know you lot think you have it bad in Blighty with all the speed cameras and CHiPs in every bush, try living here in Victoria. I got a speeding fine the other day for doing 67kph in a 60 zone, Now my defence was I learnt imperial in school not this metric crap! Still waiting to hear if I got away with that one...

The attitude of the Aussi cops is the only thing that would make me think twice about emigrating to Oz (if they'd let me in that is...).

Pity as its a nice country, but I really don't think my lisence would last 5 minutes and I couldn't live without it.

No, he was caught at a much lower figure , although he did achieve 197 or so before that, I think the figure quoted by the police was in the 130s

V funny vid on there - can't remember what it's called but it involves Nag flying past at 130mph, with a plod T5 in hot pursuit. Apparently he got caught a few seconds later!

100mph in a 30 zone.

The cops are probably hoping natural selection will take its course.
