Is it worth going to the BiB?
Discussion
On my way home last night during the usual friday rush hour. I was in the left hand lane, first in the queue at a set of lights, there is a blue polo next to me also going straight on (the two lanes sharply turns into one just after the lights). As the weather is bad I am in no rush so when the lights change the polo gets in front of me. Then a Landrover discovery appears in my drivers window and swerves in front of me causing me to slam on the brakes. Annoyed I pip my horn and carry on, murmuring what a pratt this bloke is. The next set of traffic lights we both pull up and a bloke gets out of the Discovery and walks up to my car f ing and blinding calling me an a*se and hits my car window.
Thankfully the lights change and he gets back in his car, I carry on home (about 5 mins away). Now I have a number plate and description of the bloke driving. Is it worth going to the BiB and making a statement or are they not going to bother with it?

Presumably you had no witness?
Doubt very much that police would be interested, but could you report to your insurance that your window mechanism may have been damaged and ask that they contact RK of miscreant's car and inform that a claim for damages may be forthcoming?

A whole bus full of commuters were next to me but no-one else in the car with me.
Guess I should just leave it be then. Still annoys me that people can drive like pricks and get abusive when you beep your horn at them. Oh well I will
to myself then. Cheers.
Unfourtunatly going too the BIB and reporting as stated could bring along repercussions as stated above, I once interveined when two lads went by with a wheel barrow full of wire from the local building site, BIB told them not too do it again and slapped their wrists I lost a couple of windows, cant prove it but I think its pretty obvious who and why.
Take solace in the fact one day he will go banging on the wrong window and meet his like for like match.

Somebody drives like a prat, unless your audible warning device or light flash really IS just to avoid a collision and not a method of retribution or complaint then just breathe deeply, count to ten, think 'Kenneth Noye' and let it go.
Unfortunately even then, when the sounding of horn is totally correct, legal and justified you still get the adverse reactions.

A nice friendly wave and smile after the toot usually gets even the most aggressive driver caught off-guard. At best they realise you were preventing an accident, at worst the Neanderthal is confused and can't decide if he hates you or if you recognised him and were saying hello...
I know what you mean, same thing happened to me last night, there I was minding my own business, playing with the radio in my Discovery and some prat in a mini decided to cut me up from the inside lane, damn nearly hit me.
Seriously though, just let it drop, he'll get whats comming to him, I never forget the day I was badly cut up at a roundabout, tooted my horn shouted a few well chosen names to the prat, untill he pulled over and unfolded himself from his car, I swear the bugger was 10 feet tall and 24 stone, I apologised for cutting him up and my terrible driving, and left the scene alive, lets just hope he meets the same bloke someday and isn't so apologetic.

Can I ask did this happen in Scotland? There is a reason I ask.
I suspect not, OP gives his locale as Merseyside.
Ah I never spotted that. Thanks
Ok this is what I think. Yes report it and I will tell you why. I have heard many mops and bibs say one witness police not interested. This is actually wrong and over the years I can see this kind of belief filtering into the minds of the new bibs.
Report it and the incident is recorded. I would carry out various checks to find out if the person responsible has ever been involved in any such other incidents. Thats for a kick off. it may be the case others have reported his behaviour. Lets face it we all at some point do the beeping the horn, shaky head and a bit of verbal from behind the comfort of our steering wheel. Not many of us get out the car though?
So it could be the case this clown is getting away with it.
other reported incidents could corroborate your one witness incident and a report could be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal for a braech of the peace. The PF's do take these on. There is plenty of case law in Scotland that allows this thats why I asked if it was in Scotland.
The bit about the police would give the other driver your details is simply not true by the way. I can't think why that was included.
I also have the option of interviewing the other driver under caution. He may say something incriminating which could be taken as an admission of guilt and used in court.
I know the chance of a conviction is low with one witness but it would to say there is no point and the police would not be interested would not be correct. You have been the victim of a crime! The police should damn well be interested. Even if they can only make a token gesture to reassure you that they will not simply let road bullies charge about intimidating us law abbiders.
It is actually a chance for a good bib to do a bit of plod pr with you. If nobody is caught but you were dealt with caringly and in a proffessional way that in itself would make you feel better.
Report it if you want for all you know somebody else might have seen it and phoned in and the plod are waiting for your call.
Sorry to hear about this.
Best wishes.

The BIB wouldn't give your details, I would hope not anyway, but I think he could pretty much work out who it was ??
Problem is a couple of recent incidents have left me with zero confidence in our local police...
1) The incident I mentioned above.
2) One I posted on here a while back regards a trailer I bought from auction that turned out too be stolen, police rightly recovered the trailer too its owner, since then they have done sod all.......
I gave them the lot number and invoice from the auction, they have yet too be in touch with the auction house (months) and until they do I cannot complete my claim against the auctions indemnity insurance, the auction house think I'm trying too pull a fast one over them and why shouldn't they without BIB intervention, one phone call would prob suffice.......
I did my own homework and gave them the name, address phone number and registration number of a car driven by the person that entered the trailer in the auction........ nothing ???
They said months ago they will call back too take a statement from me...... Nothing........
Call the BIB about anything dodgy going on, they will come round the corner blues n twos wailing, that way the criminals have chance too leg it and they don't have too do anything about it apart from "here's a crime number"
Sorry if I offend but that's the way I see it, no I ain't a criminal with an axe too grind just a law abiding tax paying citizen that feels very let down by the BIB.
Rant over.
Thread too stolen trailer in question, 15th August, very pro active.. not.
So as not too go too fat off topic, if you was too ask me I would stick too the brush it aside advice, next time try and get the offender too run at you at 33mph in front of a camera hidden behind a tree 14 miles from a school, should have the incident on film then. And no I dont have any points nor impending points.

I don't take it you are being offensive or even having a rant. This is not right. Get a complaint in. The police have failed you and you have a right to be angry. I am angry about this too as you have been left with a bad taste in your mouth re bibs. Its not good enough. You should be receiving a better quality of service from the police. It used to be drummed into it that the mops expect it. This has been changed to demand it. I agree with that. Can you imagine if this happened to a Chief Inspector or a judge or a defence solicitor.
It boils my blood. Complain and get them the kick up the bahooky they clearly need.
