On-line Petitions service for No. 10 - sign up info

Ther's a new trial service for direct petitions to the PM. It may be bollox of course but one othe early petitions is about reducing traffic cameras and re-testing drivers and pedestrians.
Possibly a bit of a strange idea (about the pedestrians) as presented in the edited precis - the full description is more complete - and may be a dead end as a process but it could be worth signing up if only to show willing.
I'm not actually in favour of asking for extra testing as I don't think it is operationally viable, financially viable or even beneficial in most cases. Figures indicate that it is not older drivers who are most involved in serious accidents and calls for re-testing in effect discount the driver's experience.
If you could successfully test for attitude towards driving and the effect it may have on a persons awareness, etc. it might make more sense. But anything that allows the state a greater opportunity to control more aspects of our lives isnot, imho, a good thing for anyone.

Do you think it is safe to sign up or is it spam collecter central?
Who knows?
But getting proof of an official government web site producing spam or even being the basis of the security services paying special attention to the signees would be very interesting would it not?
Worth a punt I reckon.
There's someone at the door. I may or may not be back in a few minutes ....
Here's another petition.

Petitions are about the most useless device invented ever.
Oh yes at the door of NO10 you get your 7 seconds in front of the media to hand your scrap of papers [or it will be shortly] to "somebody" and then what?
Well it's like this, the politicians LOVE petitions as it enables them to show that they "care" and "listen" to the publics concerns whilst not actually having to do bugger all [unless it is in their intrests to do so] once its handed over!!
The only way to deal with these "people" is leverage, plain and simple (which the anti car and environmental groups have known all along).

Agreed entirely.
Thing is though that now they have introduced this they can fall back on it and say - "The people are asking us to do this ...." based on the number of petitions (maybe not the number of signatories?).
So if you browse through the first 180 or so there are a number which call for laws demanding that all new houses should have solar panels and windmills and the like. Or that taxes on private transport should be increased to force people to use beses and trains. All, apparently, to protect the planet.
Now each may have very few 'signatories' so are statistically irrelevant. Unless of course you are New Labia statistical spin merchant where you might claim that 30% of the population are demanding laws and regulations to support the war against Climate Change. They would then compare that to the number that seek to ensure that personal transport is not taxed beyond the means of most people (a form of 'inclusion' I suppose, though inverted) and find, er, none.
So obviously the people just don't care about that and therefore must ALL be in favour of very green eco-concept that is touted. Right?
Yes, it's bollox of course. But then so is everything else they do. It does not stop them defining policy, apparently unopposed.
