Northamptonshire - Road deaths up, speeding down...
Discussion
Un-surprisingly the local plod when interviewed on the subject kind of said...
Interviewer - So why has this happened?
Plod - Err not really sure
Interviewer - Well what is the cause of the increased deaths?
Plod - All kinds of factors such as poor driving attention, drink driving, drugs, etc, etc
Basically he gave a list of all things nothing to do with speed - kind of like many people have been saying all along then..

Very un-PC then.

You can add Cumbria and Suffolk to the list of counties where deaths have already exceeded last year
I know why the cumbria Road Deaths increased last year, worked alongside the Casualty reduction team at the County Council.
The police are not iterested in reducing Road Deaths anymore as due to the new Acts of parlimant this is now a responsibity of the Local Authority for its Roads and the highways Agency for the Trunk Roads.
Cumbria Introduced a scheme like many other authorities to place 'Shock Boards' up at accident locations to highlight the accident problem on the road. These signs were made and ready to put up at a cost ofo over 200k but 90% of these were not put up as there were within the area of the Lake District National Park. The LDNPA objected to these signs and they are now gathering dust in a warehouse in the north end of Carlisle.
A Key remark i do remember was when the Principle Road Safety Auditor was called into the office for a £5k overspend on the Budget for the year, his comments were and Quote, "All you are interested in is how profit we can make, not once on the 3 years i have been doing this job has you asked how many lives have been saved due to the works being undertaken by this team"

Looking at some of the driving out here, I am not surprised by that at all.. I got overtaken the other day, as did the van in front of me, on the approach to a blind corner by a suited and booted lady, on her mobile phone, driving her Alpha 147. I was in the TVR and decided it was too close to the bend to overtake safely.

When and where was this interview?
Has the information been reported in press anywhere? Anyone?
Hi - yeah I think I saw this on my local news - I'll try and find something with more substance..
