Anyone hear about this guy? Traffic cop got nicked for rushing to the local takeaway.. Was let off.

Think Safe Speed managed to get a complaint in about the rather too standard double standards !!

Yep, in the Telegraph this AM. Also appears to have told porky pies about it.

The claim was that he'd been called to a shout, but that some other trafpol had taken it so he'd gone to get some lunch. Unfortunately for him the takeaway had been ordered before he left the station.

Stupid.

I am glad that that was not a member of the public offering 'reasons' or mitigating circumstances for speeding...

Arnt there about 40 people due to be charged and jailed for perverting the course of justice!?

I don't know how anyone could defend the Officer - unless what's reported is outright lies (unlikley). The matter is being investigated by the force, so I guess he's likely to get disiplined (unless the investigating officer is in the same branch of the Mason's as the Officer and the Magistrate).

I'd prefer is the Police where just honest about it and let themselves off - every job has its perks. Let's face it, this would never have come to court if a member of the public hadn't seen the incident.

I know for a fact that a force in Suffolk used to use blues and two's to get the hot food from the main station to a small rural one on nights as they couldn't heat their own food yes

Can't say how I know, but it's fact.

It was a good few years ago mind you.

Good on him. Just posted on the GG section about this. Every day I read on this forum posts asking how to lie and get off with NIP's, charges etc. This man is innocent, the Court says so.....

Quite right.

Those who uphold the law ought to be above it, and be able to lie in court about why they were speeding too. After all, it isn't PCJ if an Officer lies is it....

He didn't lie, he was found not guilty! So do you think Tiff was behind the wheel of that Beemer then? Did OJ really kill his wife? Was Beckham really being chased by reporters?

This PC has used the very same abuses of the system which are endorsed by dozens of posters of this forum every single day!

What I Read today was that he said in court he was on his way to a shout. The shout was no-where near his route. Then he said he has his blue's and two's on, but the photo showed they were not on.

Now, if what I have read is true, then he is not telling the truth to the court.. And is attempting to PCJ to get away with it.

There are liars and cheats in the police as there are in society. Not so bad if that is understood to be the case by courts. The word of a Policeman though is generally accepted by the courts, it has to be or otherwise the whole justice system falls apart. There are many offences, motoring ones being the obvious ones, where the sole word of an officer is enough to secure a conviction. To me this means that the conduct of a Police Officer should be beyond
reproach. I wouldn't trust him for one minute if he were offering evidence against me.
At least we know where HW is coming from as a Police Officer, as he says good on him - that speaks volumes to me..

Yep.

Bottom line, from now on, any person this chap is prosecuting, their defence can bring this BBC reported issue to the attention of the court and suggest that if the officer is willing to attempt to suggest to the court he was on a shout when in fact his takeaway was pre-booked, some might suggest that sounds rather like a blatant lie, and a direct attempt to PCJ... Then what else will he, uh, misdirect his mind to?

1. I don't care if he was speeding
2. I do care he lied
3. I do care he lied to the court about it
4. I do care that when a MOP does this, they seem to be going to jail
5. The silence from the officers on here who were exclaiming about the absolute requirement to prosecute for PCJ when it is a MOP who lied about their account of speeding, is astounding.

The double standards applied to MOP compared to the BiB is stunning, and serves only to deapen public resentment of the speeding campaign.

When will the Police start to lead by example, rather than hiding behind what are seen by many as high profile miscarriages of justice.

I'm sure Von will be here shortly to quote rule and regulation number as to how this policeman was acting lawfully.

He won't say that, but I would like to hear his view on this.

I love the fact that most of the threads on here that go on and on are ones slagging off police officers .... and in this case I am sure the number of replies to this thread will be nice and large

I'm not going to bother reading others replies - I have my views and they will stay my own.
