Discussion
Just a quick post here. My pet hate is people who sound their car horns for all the daft reasons. Like beeping goodbye or the lift is outside. I especially have a deep anger towards taxis and especially private hire cars (mini cabs I think they get called in Englandshire)
Am I being daft about this?
When I was uniform I made it my personal holy mission to charge everybody (zero tollerance) with this £30 fixed penalty.
Whats the opinion of the Ph'rs on this?
Am I a winged avenger or an old git?

People beeping after 11 and before 7-8 get on my nerves too as I live ono a main road.
Isn't that a contrevention of the highway code?

Gets on my tots too ... I rarely give tickets for it though, I hate giving out tickets! If someone is particularly obnoxious they may get one though.
Normally find telling them to shut it works ok (politely of course explaining the law and what the horn should be used for and that if they carry on I'll slap a ticket on their forehead)

Oi I thought we were pals. : - >
Sorry, couldn't resist that one
How about people failing to indicate properly, or even at all?
(I seem to remember similar threads to this in the past, anyone know which one?)

Oi we are talking car horns. Right thats it I'm wearing the pink tie tomorrow.
Fancy a transfer through to Falkirk, someone needs to start ticketing the lazy, knuckledragging, taxi driving tossers through here.
Oh, and for stopping adjacent to a space, when there is only room for cars to park on one side of the road hence blocking the road in both directions.
And breath..

Yes. Let me see, firstly we have -
* Seen someone they know on the pavement/opposite carriageway.
* Can't be bothered to go and knock on a door/ring a phone.
* Attempting to startle pedestrians.
* Pressing the horn while trying to change tracks on the stereo.
Then, in vaguely more car-related terms, there's -
* Frustrated that the driver in front hasn't pulled out in front of a car that they themselves haven't seen yet.
* Annoyed that they've been overtaken.
* Upset that a faster car has managed to get across a gap they couldn't have made.
* Angry that some other driver has transgressed a bizarre self-invented driving rule not to be found in any official publication.
Then, finally, in maybe 0.1% of cases, you have the, "I am here, if you continue what you are doing then bad things will happen."
Really, I wouldn't blame anyone for ignoring car horns altogether. I mean, I still have a look round to see if I've done something wrong, but I can't remember anything in the past year that wasn't either a case of mate-spotting or an impatient driver demanding those in front to do something dangerous and inconsiderate.

I dunno really.
If we had the attitude like in Tobago, I think we would be a happier country... There, if you see someone you know, it is your duty to toot the horn rapidly and wave energetically out of the window until you get a wave back. But then, if you see someone you want to have a chat to, simply stop in the road and chat. The cars behind just sit and wait.
I think there are far more serious things to worry about than tooting the horn (like driving along those funny white lines, swerving on roundabouts, failing to adhere to lanes on blind corners etc..), you know, things that could cause a crash.

Had to use mine today, in a row of traffic with a lay-by to the left of us an Ambulance appeared behind us with lights on a siren blaring, the git in front just stayed put with no where for the Ambulance to go, until I blasted him with my horn (and not you nancy ones that most cars have fitted theses days!

I agree, and I am one of those people who beeps when I pass a pedestrian that I know, not if I'm on a busy road though.
I hate people beeping outside a house because they can't be arsed to go to the door though.
Gently Bently, I wish you'd come up my way. I live in a small cul-de-sac, nice and quiet. Except for one neighbour who blasts his horn evey time he leaves his house. It's his way way of saying "I'm off now", something his household is probably fully aware of seeing as he went out the door saying "I'm off now". The rest of us could't care less if he is "off now" or not. We just wish he'd do it like the rest of us. Quietly.
