Police In England
Discussion
Am I the only one that thinks they need to get tough!
American style!!
You know, , fishtailng drivers that refuse to stop, hiding behind big billboards (smokey and the Bandit style!) and things like that, make the motorists respect them again!!
More Marked cars, and what the police say goes, none of this empolying Mr Loophole to get you off, if you were speeding, drunkdriving, using a mobile, no excuse, your going down!
Sort of like the Clerk of the Course at a race track, bring your check book and pen!

I certainly have a zero tolerance approach to imbeciles who don't know the contraction of you are is you're not your.
However, I guess it depends on what you want to achieve. It is common knowledge that if you want people to behave like adults you need to treat them as such. Dukes of Hazard style redneck law enforcements officers without the power of thought will only create animosity and certainly not do anything useful like make the roads safer and more pleasant to be on.
Maybe you want everybody to drive like morons and to the letter of the law. More accidents will happen, more people will die but while we're all crashing into one another with eyes fixed on our speedos you can be happy in the knowledge that the letter of the law is being followed.
Oh, and Mr Loophole is there to make sure that due process is followed, and that's a good thing in a democracy like the one we used to have.
Presumably you'd have no problem with a letter from your local police saying you've been found guilty of robbing the post office, please present yourself at the local jail so you can do a 10 stretch? Then having to find a "loophole" to get off the charge...

I think perhaps Mr Marshall is trying to be sarcastic (I hope!). As a serving BiB, yes we probably do at times need to be a bit 'tougher' in this very PC world, but I would draw the line at tactics used Stateside.
As for Mr Loophole - can't say I think much of him either. You were either speeding or not. I is right that those who can afford to pay for expensive legal representation appear above the law?

If every speeding case were to fail because due process hadn't been followed it would demoralise the speed nazis to the extent they would concentrate on prosecuting important stuff like dangerous behaviour on the roads.
And then fewer motorists would be in the morgue.
What's not to like about the fella, other than his price?

Supermono - excessive speeding is dangerous.
The greater the speed - the greater the impact - the greater the injuries. Not exactly rocket science is it?

I think people would respect the Police more if there were less Scameras, less 'compliance' prosecution and more 'Honest Police work', bring in some common sense and earn back the respect. People may fear being shot, scammed and otherwise entrapped but respect is a different thing altogether, IMO.

Not necessarily, do you think drivers try to avoid the accident by braking or steering away from trouble??? How much speed is washed off by those actions. The statement is simplistic or moronic depending on your viewpoint.

I've always wondered how any legal system where you can pay for a better defence can possibily be fair

Or... if you don't or can't pay you are fighting a case against a highly trained professional CPS solicitor despite the fact you may know nothing about the law or set foot in a court before.
I will bet my house on the fact that this happens many times more than someone like Nick Freeman outclasses a CPS brief.
The legal system is highly stacked against you - especially in traffic cases where the evidence against you is from 'infallible' instruments or 'expert witness' police officers. Using Nick Freeman is one of the very few ways you can stack the chips back in your favour.
Its true, he is a businessman and prices himself within the 'law of supply and demand' - he is in demand so is expensive but dont blame that, blame the 'system' and the way the CPS used downright immorral tactics to destroy the chances of anyone who wants to defend themselves.

If they can't avoid completely what they should reasonably have been able to, then it doesn't matter how much they shaved off, they still got it wrong. It is the speed that is left after the shaving that determines greatly the severity of the outcome (if they still can't avoid the hazard). People get it wrong every day at low speeds & hit things, so why should we trust their judgement to get it right at much higher speeds when the consequences of error are much greater because of the greater energy involved ?

No Telecat - the moron is the person that puts other road users at risk by travelling at inappropriate speeds. Simple but true.
Absolutely true, the contention here, however, is that a safe and appropriate speed can not be determined by a number on a stick, because it will change depending on road conditions, weather, vehicle, and driver quality - the number on a stick will not.
I don't think the police need to get tough.
There are plenty of cases of scum taking cops to court for excessive force used in arrests, and sadly a lot of them get compensated for the pain and suffering.
I think the courts do need to get tough.
When the scum serve an appropriate sentence, and when they are made to pay for the pain and suffering they inflict on their victims, we may get a more reasonable society.

Police are fine themselves its the Scamera Partnerships that piss me off. That and Courts so soft they could be used to wrap new born kittens and keep them warm it makes me sick.
Running out of prison spaces so just let the
ers go? No I think not. Get a Ship, load it up with scum of all kinds, push it out into the Atlantic towards the US and sink it half way. Infact get some TV Helicopters to watch the USAF vs RAF Annual Sink the Scum Festival.
Guess it saves the USAF from attacking their own schools for practise
