Tim Collins MP
Discussion
I think we should all e-mail this chap, who could become a champion of the oppressed motorist - he has spoken out anout the government's obsession with targetting motorists for revenur generation. Let's support a man with possible influence, or at least a voice in parliament. Let's face it, there's a lot of motorists, who are also potential voters!!
Here are a few quotes from Tim Collins MP, taken from a recent thread on the ABD mail list. In a reply to one of the ABD members he states that Speed cameras have a role to play where they can demonstrably reduce accidents on a particular stretch of road. But that they should not, be used simply as a revenue raising mechanism.
Tim’s resume can be found here www.conservatives.com/people/person.cfm?PersonID=4527 on the Conservative Party web site.
"Research by Autocar magazine says that 33 per
cent more cameras have been positioned on our fifty safest roads than on the
fifty most dangerous stretches. Just eighteen cameras monitor more than 500
miles of the most hazardous roads."
"Putting the cameras in the wrong place can be deeply counterproductive.
Motorists lose faith in the fairness of the system."
"Perhaps that's why the latest figures show that while speed cameras are
proliferating, the number of road accidents is rising not falling for the
first time in years."
"We will make sure that speed cameras are used, as they should be, to make
our roads safer - not as just another mechanism to milk the motorist yet
again."

Outlaw, spot on mate.
Somebody has thought up the idea of helping out us poor downtrodden motorists.
The same people who introduced the fuel tax escalator....
Let's see it in the Conservative Party Manifesto first. At least it will give us something to throw at them when they get in and change their minds.
