Folks,

I know this one's been done before, but wondering if there's a definitive answer?

Can you be "done" by a gatso going off in your face (ie, on the opposite carriageway)?

Driving along this evening, car came past the other way setting off the gatso, double flash - then a couple of seconds later, another double flash. I was the only car around by this stage, but on the other side of the road going the other way, no white calibration lines on my side of the road AFAIK. May have been a tad over the limit but I very much doubt enough to trigger the camera.

Quite irritating as with a total of 4 flashes my eysesight was definitely impaired for a few seconds with it being dark grumpy

I know some cameras give a single flash in situations like that, but never seen a double flash like that.

Thoughts?

Been there, got flashed, never got the NIP.... Safe as houses mate.

Would probably scare the cr4p out of a driver going the other way just at that point though.

My mate the magistrate told me he dealt with a case where a lady got flashed twice, passing the same camera in both directions.

He was not aware that Gatsos are not type approved for oncoming photographs.

Could have been one of those in the middle of a dual carriageway that can be turned around - Police did that at half-time during a Rangers match and my mate (and lot's of other suporters) got done twice!

There's one on the A13 at Canning town that goes off non stop due to traffic, mainly trucks going the opposite way, I would be surprised if the film lasts more than an hour or two.

There is a one near where I live that if your going the other way is just before a NSL, everyone sets this thing off going towards it by either accelerating or overtaking into the NSL. I see people often do it deliberately.

I think most of the pictures it takes are pointless! It serves them right for placing it 20 yards into a 30 from a 60. The road could still be a 60 there but was reduced to a 30 for some unknown reason about 6 months before the camera was fitted.
