Really Breaking the Speed Limit - But let off..
Discussion
Christmas day several years ago. Totally empty stretch of A102M between South Woodford and Hackney.
I had a friend
who accelerated from 50 (first camera) to 150 leptons, before the Hackney junction.
At the junction a police car (who had come on at the previous junction by camera) had seen said friend floor it.
Caught said friend up at lights on slip road. Flashed the blues and twos. So said friend pulled over and thought, bugger 6 points and a ban.
The copper, was very polite, checked to see if the speed limit was know (yes officer, it's 50mph) and then the copper said that Griff driver was doing over 100mph. Driver politely disagreed. To cut a long story short. Griff Driver got off with a warning, and then said copper spent 10 mins chatting about how his brother had a TVR and griff driver was on his way sans fine, points and ban.
If I hadn't been there myself
I would never have believed said friend.

It wasn't my car, but the owner was with me and we were late for a meeting in Chesterfield. Mr. Plod was in an unmarked Rover P6 3500'S' and it took him over 7 miles to catch us.
My colleague said that we were late for a very important meeting concerning the energy crisis (remember that?) due to him injuring his hand by slamming it in a door (completely true - bandage to prove it) and that we would get a serious bollocking when we arrived. He said that we were getting a serious bollocking now, and to keep it down a bit, but to go on our way.
Big sighs of relief!!!!
What a nice policeman. That was the week before the nationwide 50 mph limit, motorways included, was put in place to save petrol and which almost everyone ignored, including the police.

Not all police ignored it - I was 'done' for 60 on a dual-carriageway (normal limit 70) when the temporary 50 limit was in force.
A few years ago I was let off, after a stern talking to, for 90 on a deserted (70 limit) dual carriageway.
Mate of mine managed nowt but a stern talking too after being pulled at "around 120" through the 50 limit Medway Tunnel a few weeks back. Personally, my best is 52 (according to the radar thing) in a 30, in the pi$$ing rain, on questionable tyres whilst not wearing a seatbelt - got taken into the car but managed to wriggle out of any sanctions... My earlier days, you understand...
50 something in a 30 on a wide, empty stretch between Kingston and Richmond in my Lancia. Bibs pulled out of a junction at the end of the straight and followed me, then pulled me over at the top of Richmond Hill. He was giving me a right telling off, and seemed to be working up to a booking when his colleague in the car put on the lights and siren. They obviously got a more important shout over the radio because he told to to behave myself, jumped in the cop car and they disappeared in a squeal of tyres.
The relief...ahhh!
The other time was in the Marcos when I overtook 3 cars coming out of Esher, only to discover (after a chase!) that the lead car was unmarked cop car. Was probably doing well over 70 in a 40 by the time I braked for the Scilly Isles. I told the policeman that I had recently finished rebuilding the engine and was "testing it". Got off with a warning about many a young man ending up on a mortuary slab...

The Medway tunnel is awesome. Almost worth going to see my parents just so I can have a few blasts through it
Anyways, I've never been stopped for speeding
95 mph, accelerating hard out the end of some deserted 50 limit roadworks on the M1 near Sheffield in 2004. I wasn't the only one, there was a Sharan VR6 doing exactly the same as me, but unfortunately the copper in the Range Rover sat on one of those laybys off the hard shoulder pinged me and was soon in Hot Pursuit. I had spotted him right away, and had pulled into the inside lane, by this point doing 69mph, whistling to myself.
He caught me up and then, oddly, sat about three feet off my bumper before sticking the blues and twos on. I stomped on my uprated brakes and pulled sharply into the hard shoulder, causing him to do the same.
I was soon in the passenger seat getting the lecture, which seemed to go on for ages. All I could think was, 'give me the ticket so I can go', and my protestations that the car couldn't actually do such a speed in such a short period of time fell on deaf ears.
Then he said, sheepishly: 'Erm, well, seeing as you stopped a bit quicker than I expected, the gun fell on the floor and wiped the reading off, so it's stern warning for you this time.'
I have never, ever, had to fight so much to keep the biggest grin ever off my face. I got in the car and yelled 'Yeeeeessssss!!!'
Oh, and 89 mph on the M74, managed to mess the scammers about so much that it timed out. Thinking of putting that on my CV.

62 in a 30 = 6 points
75 on a motorway ( while towing ) = severe talking to, then let off
92 on a motorway = 4 points
Had a couple of lucky escapes as well.
Was doing a good 3 figure speed ( actualy had foot to floor and been maxed out for several miles ) in my astra GTE. This was on the M40 and with very light traffic. I saw ( far too late ) a marked car with a hair dryer pointing at me. I stood hard on the anchors, but was probably still well over the limit when I passed him. He set off after me with Blues & Twos going. I sat on the inside lane at 65 & thought I would wait for him to get close and then pull over onto the hard shoulder. Before he got close he was over to the outside lane and went past very rapidly.
That was lucky I thought ( or words to that effect ).
A few miles on, I saw BiB on the hard shoulder talking to the driver of an identical Astra GTE. I carn't be sure, but it looked like they were having an argument......

I got caught travelling about 125mph in my old Mk1 MR2, when I was about 19 (so a few years ago now).
Copper who got me said he didn't really mind the straight line bit (it was a nice dual carriageway, with a roundabout in between) it was the taking the roundabout at about 80 that he objected to.But he just said watch yourself if you want to keep your car. And off I go........
