Hi all,

A good friend of mine was recently caught by a mobile speed camera van, the NIP says 47 in a 30 - whats he likely to get?

Ive told him i reckon he'll get £60 fine and 3 points, but hes worried as he got caught doing 74 in a 60 just before Christmas - so hes worried they might deduce that he hasnt 'learned his lesson' and as a result might give him a harsher penalty.

Any thoughts people?

Cheers

Dave

i reckon he'll get 4-5 points and fine between 100 and 400 pounds for doing 47 in a 30. i doubt they'll care that he "hasn't learned his lesson".

Ouch! I thought less than 20mph over the limit usually got a FPN (£60,3points)?

Will he have to go to court for this one, or will he just have to send his license off again?

In all fairness, for 47 in a 30 he deserves a good bollocking - but its not residential and IMHO should be at least a 40mph limit, if not a 50!

I guess he'll just have to wait and see!

Cheers mate

i'm pretty sure they only summons you if you were caught doing 26mph above the limit.

55 in a 30 in January ... 3 points and £60.

Before everyone goes off the deep end it is through a pedestrianless dual carriageway tunnel with a fixed camera at the end.

We wall slowed for the tunnel ... just didn't slow enough for the 4 police men with radar guns !

They were only stopping people who were doing over 50mph ! They were busy ...

What does that say about the speed limit ??

He will get a £60 fine and 3 penalty points.

For info, ACPO Guidelines are as follows-
1)Actual speed+10%+2mph =Verbal warning
2)Then this Speed up to 25mph over limit = FPN(E)
3)Speed limit+ 26mph and over = Court appearance

These are only guidelines issued by the association of Chief Police Officers but are normally changed when theres a particular problem eg. Persistant Speeding outside schools etc etc.

Hope that this helps.

thanks Tony - looks like ill also be ok if i got caught the other week when i went under a dual carriageway bridge at around 95 (that was my vmax but i didnt sit at that speed) - failing to spot the jam sandwich sat on it! doh!

once youve accounted for speedo error i should hopefully be looking at 3 points if they decide to pursue it.
