Thinking of buying one for someone for Christmas.
Currently looking at Snooper S4 Evolution.
This alerts to radar guns and scamera vans so is it likely to become illegal ?

Better off with an Origin B2 (solo). Warnings based on your speed. Seperate plug in laser detector so if made illegal then no problem.

Another vote for the origin here - the best of the GPS based units and remains completely legal if the ban ever happens

IMO the best units are the ones that tell you where the fixed camera sites are. All the laser/radar detectors do is tell you have have a ticket inbound.

I have a Road Angel 2 - the radar detector can be disabled when the law changes so, will remain legal. Only thing missing is that it doesn't tell you what the limit is, only that there is a speed camera looming.

The radar detector has saved me on 2 occasions - as long as you're quick to react and don't have much speed to lose to get you under the limit, its a useful tool. Although, mostly, I have seen the van and slowed down if necessary before the warning goes off.

I think the smaller Road Angel Compact gives you the speed limit information of the road your travelling on.

I had the Road Angel 2, the laser detection is rubbish (unless you fit the external number plate sensor) but everything else works okay - just a bit intrusive when you drive around the M25, M42 or any road with lots of speed cameras on.
