South Yorkshire Safety Camera Partnership regularly rotates it's cameras around gatso boxes in the county, except for one site on the A616 at Langsett. My 990i has alerted at this particular installation for months now. They keep a camera in this box permenently. The road, a major link between Sheffield & Manchester, is used by many strangers. I'm sure Strangers + Gatsos = Revenue. Then again, maybe I'm just being cynical.

Sorry to p155 on your bonfire, but that particular cash machine has made life safer in the village. Now there is little risk of someone hitting you from behind while your waiting to turn right.

Shame the same can't be said for the SPECS on the Stocksbridge bypass - police are reporting accidents have gone up.......

SPECS are in place now, are they? Are there any crash barriers now instead of double white lines?

Considering the high number of deaths, the A616 Stocksbridge By-pass certainly needed something to calm the traffic, although I'm not sure the SPECS cameras are the complete answer. OK, they've slowed the traffic down, but vehicles now tend travel in convoy at the 60mph limit thus leading to dangerous bunching together. The only real answer would have been to make it a dual-carriageway from the outset. Too late now though.

So the SPECS are in place on the Stocksbridge bypass with no other road alterations?

This was questioned here months ago:
www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=14870&f=10&h=0&hw=stocksbridge

I think it's a bloody disgrace.

There have been other very minor improvements such as hatched areas here and there but otherwise, nowt. Oh, and I've noticed less police patrols, but that could be me missing them when I travel along it. Motorbikes seem unconcerned by the system, but we know the SPECS can't pick up on them. A great shame that such a lovely "drivers road" has earned itself a deadly reputation. Some say it's cursed by the mad monk seen on the section toward Underbank. I don't go for that mumbo-jumbo myself
