Someone I know has recently been caught doing 92 in a 30. The road is usuallyhas a 50mph speed limit restriciton but it is undergoing roadworks at the minute so has a temporary limit of 30mph.

What is he likely to get? For what it is worth, I *know* he is a crap driver and he had his 2 kids (both <3) in the car at the time of the offence.

Before they throw the book at him, they should beat him over the head with it. This is serious, dangerous driving.

I'm not one to throw stones with my record but I'd leave the country!

Agreed. Obviously it depends on what the video shows but is there any chance that he could be jailed? Especially if they threw a dang3erous driving charge at him as well? I sincerely hope so.

I doubt that it will result in a dangerous driving charge (& custody as a result).

Would you care to offer an opinion about punishment? I think he has 6 points (for speeding already) - What sort of ban do you think he will get?

What does his sergeant think? Was the car already familiarised?

Oh dear.....

92 in a 50 is dumb enough.. I would be surprised if he doesn't get a few months ban. To be quite honest, if he doesn't get a small ban, I imagine the local speed kills brigade will kick up a stink.

Out of interest, how many kids did he kill whilst travelling at that speed?!?!?

A mate of mine from uni got done for 87 in a 30. They charged him with Dangerous Driving, and he was banned for a year I think. They did say that had he be doing 90 or more there would be a risk of jail.

How bad was the resulting accident?

On the almost certain probability that there wasn't one, shirley the charge should have been 'potentially dangerous driving if it had been carried out at a time or in a place or under another set of conditions, but erm not dangerous at the time, so we need to pretend that it was to placate the emotively glandular but braindead speedophobes in charge of what risibly passes as road safety policy in the UK'

Or similar

And wtf is that about 90 meaning jail? What has a few mph got to do with the price of apple pie? Utter nonsense from officialdom as usual.

A66 where they're putting the new bridge in by any chance? If so he's really not very bright considering they've recently put up nice flashing signs to warn you how fast you're going

He's up for a ban of some description and probably a very nasty fine too.

No accident, but considering it was 9.00 on a monday morning, in an town and he locked up all 4 wheels braking when he saw the camera van I'd say the charge of dangerous driving was more than fair...

plead insane at the time of the crime. Turn up at court with two pencils up your nose and pants on your head. Say wibble wibble and hope to hell the Judge has never seen Blackadder.

Failing that I think the chap is going to be somebodys housewife in jail.

"Potentially dangerous" my @rse. Ban him for several years and make him take a retest to get his licence back. 92 in a 50 is stupid enough, but when it's been reduced to 30...

You see we've been saying for ages that these camera vans can cause accidents

Thing is, numbers don't measure danger or stupidity - and jail is no place for someone who has committed a technical infringement but hasn't hurt, let alone seriously injured, anyone. When thuggish violent offenders who are known to have caused injuries walk free from court so many times before being jailed (if ever) it makes a mockery of the law to jail someone for travelling a given distance in a given time.
