How I nearly Nicked Santa!
Discussion
True story
Several years ago I was working nights just before Christmas, APS. The town I worked in had, and still has a lot of language schools, where foreign students come to learn English.
We got a call to a local night club at about 0200 am where a fight had broken out. On arrival amidst the usual pandemonium, I couldn't help but notice one of the main protagonists was clad in a strange outfit, looking a bit like an 18th century farmer with a tricorn hat with bells on it.
He was quite aggressive, drunk and speaking a language a didn't understand. He had also apparently laid out on the locals who had also had a lot to drink.
We managed to separate the warring factions and the gentleman with the bells on calmed down slightly, and kept shouting 'I am Santa' and a selection of rather choice phrases thrown in, all in a foreign accent.
I had worked enough night shifts not to believe in Father Christmas anymore, and I pointed this out to the gentleman concerned, who it turned out had lost his watch and wrongly assumed the man next to him had stolen it, hence the fight.
Anyway, the point of the story is, yes he was Father Christmas.
He was from Lapland, and had been sent by his employers at the North Pole to England to learn the language. He was the official Father Christmas!!
He was also wearing traditional Lapp costume hence the hat with bells on.
I have ever since been grateful that I was not the Policeman who arrested Father Christmas
so if you have been good this year and have any presents it's down to me!
And now I must go and saw a turkey in half so it will fit in the oven!
Merry Christmas to one and all and a safe new year to everyone!!
