Anybody been along the A52 Grantham to Boston road recently? I did yesterday for the first time for a few months and there has appeared approx 12 locations where it looks like they are going to site new speed cameras. There are the usual road markings (both sides of the road) and area's on the side of the road just before where the camera will be sited that have been prepared for a vehicle to park.

This road is one of the main roads to the Skegness area and these are obviously in preparation for the holiday makers. There are a couple of locations on this road where it goes through villages and 'slightly' built up area's but the majority of it is open country side.

12 camera locations in a 30 mile stretch of country road smacks of more money making rather than road safety.

The A52 Notts to Grantham road is often the site for the odd speed trap.
Fair enough I say, its single track, twisty and has far too many trucks on the road. There are a few big smashes their every few months all so.

Have not been on the Grantham to Boston bit of the road though for years so cant really comment!

The markings have been there for quite a while. I reckon the markings alone will slow people down which is why they are there. I mean hell, the average numptie will hit his brakes even without the camera! For all he he knows it might be hidden in the hedgerow, play safe and all that. Gits. I doubt that they will install all the cameras if any.

Rode this on Saturday, I haven't seen them before (not been that way for a few months) but they look like they are for Gatso's and so 'should' be well visible. I was a bit concerned over how many sites there are (I didn't actually count'em though) but Lincs is one county IIRC that has had a big increase in RTA's despite their heavy use of Speed cameras etc, so I suppose they are using that well known solution to crime prevention - more speed cameras...

BTW about 4 yrs ago I was stopped on this stretch of road by the localand despite having been pressing on more than just 'a bit' was given a lecture/bollocking/warning and let off with a 'producer' showing that not all traffic plod are (were?) bad. But I can't help thinking that if the same happened today would the same cop would still consider discretion as an option

Drove past plod in Grantham yesterday. Stood by the side of the road with a laser.

This road had recently had its limit dropped 10mph, but he wasn't pointing the gun at just anyone in the hope he'd get them for + 5mph. I think he was actually following guidelines and first forming an opinion that the offender was speeding. Good lad.

What a shame.

The A52 (and indeed the A17) possess stretches of tarmac where it would be commonly quite safe to seriously 'press on.'

Frankly, these are some of the nicest straights in England and it's another nail in the coffin.

Don't they have a Truvelo fetish too, round those parts (seem to recall)?

Bloody commie spoilsports.

Ah, the good old human judgement and discretion. Pity it is so rare these days!

The A52 does indeed have some fine stretches of open road. It's the only road in the country where someone I know *wink wink* who's normally quite conservative with speed, has been ton-up on more than one occasion.
