sorry, hit the button a bit too soon.

Should I report a persistent untaxed car ? Its for ever on the road an 03 plate so not a old banger, if I do report it will I remain anonymous and will the BIB do anything about it.

Thnx, will see what happens, the guy thinks its great too get away with it, I would struggle with my conscience if ever he hit a child for instance and I had done nothing. Chances are there is no insurance too.

Also an 0800 number - but from experience don't hold your breath - still wonder why BIB don't take action - is not displaying a valid disc still an offence that BIB can pull, or has that gone to DVLA too??

Edit - found it on another site ,on a ANPR van - it's called the DVLA "HOTLINE" --0800325202

Police tend to fill in a witness statement for DVLA who do the prosecuting.

You can still be given a fine failing to display by Police though & expect a visit to the station with a forged disc.

Would be disappointed if nothing happens as I'm pretty sure it wont be insured (that type of guy) shame he wont drive at 31 in a 30, they would get him then ? Not very good those machines at catching non taxed, tested or insured vehicles are they ?

What evidence do you have that he is not insured and why do you think he would ever hit a child?
What on earth has his vehicle not being taxed got to do with his driving ability and why would paying his tax to the DVLA lessen his chances of hitting a child?
The majority of children who are struck by vehicles are struck at entirely legal speeds by entirely legal drivers and vehicles so I'm interested to know where your implications come from.

laugh You naughty boy jith, don't you know you're not supposed to bring reality into the equation!

When propaganda rears its head in this way your comments are justified I feel.

Slightly different note, just noticed my mot runs out soon and so does the tax, going to try and get new tax on the existing mot, but what happens if I can't book the car in till after the new year and can't get tax?? I can't shift it off the road at the moment and have tried to get its mot sorted early (23rd but had to cancel as car wouldn't make it 300 miles for the MOT due to me over filling with oil)....

I genuinely will be getting it all sorted in the next 1-2 weeks when the garage can be contacted (bloody xmas holidays), but what is the case with the MOT.... put up with the fact I may get caught even tho if I don't have the MOT so therefore I can't get the Road tax???

Any ideas, other than try and store it off road, will be asking someone tonight but the chance is a no...

cripes mate thats awkward. The smart ass in me says you had a month to sort this out and its a mistake of your own making but I dont like a smart ass any more than you do.

I'm a bit loose on the RTA 1988 section 47 that covers MOT's. Perhaps a letter from the garage confirming the date you are booked in. I don't see that helping to be honest. I think its off the road until the day of the MOT. You will get tax no bother though. You could get that today.

The problem is that sods law dictates you will get stopped for some daft reason then its a hands tied job for the bibs they have to report you. I can tell you they would probably rather not because its such a pain in the butt.

I know the wig will say (if you take it that far) Christmas is the same time every year you had a month to sort this out before your MOT was up. Prison hard labour 40 years. (If your English in Scotland we might even eat you)

Most likely fixed penalty £60 & 3 points. Its a flipping hastle for you I know but thats how I see it. Remember SODS LAW.

Make a point of getting the tax now on the existing in date MOT to save yourself all the bother.
You can even get the tax on line.

See thats the problem, it was all sorted then the chance of me blowing the engine up (blowing the seals at least) getting to the garage for its MOT meant it had to be cancelled.... Tried to relocate to a local one but they had all closed up for xmas!!

Got all the old documents now, except the old MOT (just my luck, its at home) as I store them at work, so will be trying tomorrow morning or tonight online...

Failing that I think I will need to beg the garage to take it into storage for a few days whilst it is MOT'd.

AM I mis-reading this? Why would you have to drive 300 miles to have an MOT?
Couldn't you have drained some of the oil out?I'm not trying to sound like a smart ass but curious.

Couldn't get underneath to get any oil out as I tried.... Was going home to see my parents for xmas and going to use the garage of a family friend to service and MOT the car as I usually do. Thats the only reason it was booked in back home, I happen to be home and hence it was easier to book it in and see them at the same time.

If the current MoT is still valid, why not just nip down to your local Post Office and tax it? Even if the MoT runs out that same day, it is current at the time you buy the tax disc so not a problem. It then won't matter that the car isn't properly mobile, it will be taxed so can be left on the road. You can then get it tested as and when.

So driving an untaxed car is ok ?

Propaganda ?? What planet you guys on ? OK correct I have maybe used the wrong example re child, what I was trying too say is the chances are the guy is uninsured too, and you would be happy for him too have an accident involving your car ?

Reality ? What would the reality be after he struck your car with no tax, insurance not valid ??

Apologies for getting my wording of the situation wrong, think I will go SORN the car now and drive around in it, seems its not a problem after all.
