Do the camera vans have to make themselves visible or can they hide?

I passed one on the A12, Christmas Eve morning. It was not on the bridge, but as though it had just crossed over and then pulled over to the side. You couldn't see it until about 1 second before you went under the bridge because of trees etc on the side.

I don't know how clear a shot he could get from there and how long they need to see the vehicle for to gauge the speed but the angle was pretty tight, especially trying to cover 2 lanes The did have the side door open so I'm pretty sure they were on the job.

I thought I read somewhere that they have to make themselves visible to the public, and all the other ones I have seen have been stopped right in the middel of the bridge so you can see them from a little distance away.

The tw@t that got me June 2000 in Northamptonshire sure was well hidden. £40, 3 points by a poxy civilian un-trained pox head.

The authorities lost a good alie that day. You see in the five and a half years since, the Police and their associated agencies have asked for my help more times than I've asked for theirs, they got, and will continue to get, sweet FA from me.

Was it worth it? Model citizen to anarchist in 4mph.................

There's not much, probably nothing, that winds me up as much as this incident. I'm all for fairness, if I'm driving like a loony, get chased and pulled by a marked T5 then that's fair game. I'm bad, you got me. I don't drive like that by the way!

But this van was very well hidden, 4mph, dual carriageway, early morning, no children, old people, pets, nothing just a tax collecting machine and he got me.

Now, I was younger, less wise and clueless about such matters, I thought he was BiB. Now I'm 5 and half years older, got me a Road Angel, Sat Nav and a few other gadgets in the armoury to even up the fight a bit.

I know exactly what you mean about hurting, but this guy achieved nothing for his £40 only my hatred. He hurt me much more than the £40. The only thing it changed was my attitude towards those I thought were there to fight crime.

Really I'm an easy going rodent and you have no idea how much damage this one incident has done. I will never, ever, forgive or forget this.

I'll try and calm down now, have a peaceful New Year and I openly admit I certainly couldn't do your job.

I'll support the police only insofar as they are doing something worthwhile.

Once they start pursuing people for aledged thought crimes, victimless technical offences, or other illiberal nonsense I begin to wonder what it would take to make decent people stop aiding creeping totalitarianism.

I have never been able to consider a career in either police or military because I have never been able to accept that the law or my country is always right or that it deserves my support when it is not.

I know police and military people who have coping mechanisms for when they disagree with what they must do, but how far is too far?

Is it like boiling a frog?

Indeed, I know many people who feel the same way.

The SCP's have done so much damage to the police/public relationship in just four or five years, it makes you wonder how much longer it can continue.

They're supposed to be visible, look on their website and they'll tell you how they put camera signs out etc!

The fact is though, their word means nothing and they will hide as they see fit. What are you going to do about it?

Someone in our (large) family got done by some bush skulking robbers for 37mph, a few years ago now. As he had zero interest in cars, even less in speeding, the slowest dullest driver we knew and was a great advocate of the law;- lets just say our entire family was converted rather quickly and lost all respect for the police, law and authority since we were shown so clearly the full hypocrisy of the system.

Because many systems (The SCP robbers are just one) are run by criminals who often break the law (many 'speeding' convictions win on bully tactics - outside of the law), the system naturally works much better when you decide in fact 'yes, I am a criminal now, and will therefore think as one'.

So any policeman unlucky enough to crosses our paths now gets their badge numbers taken and gets very few words in return, my license is always 'at home' and because I can no longer trust their agenda they get no help either, in any circumstance. Since the authority seems unable and incapable of making any sensible laws, to the point of letting teen ASBOs wander free for years making peoples lives a misery, but 37mph down a big safe wide road means instant punishment, we now pick and choose which laws apply to us, and simply ignore the ones we don't feel are realistic.

One thing I do know: There are millions of people now, just like us, and every single petty 'speeding' robbery that takes place (how many of the 3 million last year?) adds a new family to our side. I wonder how long the SCP robbers will be able to continue making sooo many millions of enemies, it's a useful measure for the government to gauge just how much sh1t they can dish out to the population before it kicks back (they love these experiments): one day the SCP's party is gonna stop.

I notice on the radio that suddenly 40ft drain deaths are newsworthy to justify new cameras along there (this years 7 other deaths were not mentioned). Another person died last night when a simple barrier would have saved his life. Another death to justify adding a revenue camera?

..."do they have to make themselves visible...?

Have you seen this - it would seem they do their best to be invisible, or at least blend into the background and / or look like a "normal" vehicle... (it's for the £££ you see)

He's hurting the society that allows a gross mis appropriation of resources to continue.

The whole camera thing is increasingly viewed as a clear indication of a legal system out of control and divorced from reality.

In my area in the last few years-
My neighbours car has had a concrete block through its window
Another neighbour has had his car burnt out
Another neighbour has had his garage broken into
And ditto for a bloke living down the street
A colleague has a dug dealer living opposite him
Another colleague had a shed broken into
Someone threw hypodermic syringes at Mrs C from a multi storey car park roof. They nearly hit her pram!
The local gym has had all its windows smashed in the last few months.
A man has chased six year olds home with his penis hanging out of his trousers and has exposed himself at the school gate.

Not near me but very shocking-
My God parents had a dead body ( a toddler ) thrown over their garden wall.

Now the police did investigate the body but have yet to make an arrest. As for the rest of it, well at least they handed out the requisite numbers for the insurance claims.

However they appear to have enough cash to employ someone to sit in a camera van early on a weekend, close to where a short stretch of dual carriageway goes out of my area and off towards Gloucester.

They caught our childminder accelerating away from where people live onto this stretch of road.

Great clear up rate there, stopped that menace to society, well done.

Now consider the traffic going the other way. First there's a bend, a bus stop, two junctions in quick succession and finally the double lanes converge into one just after traffic lights. Some drivers race each other at those lights and make insane attempts to cut in first where the road finally becomes one lane. At this point there is a crossing. God help anyone with bad eyesight crossing when the lights change.

Does the camera van ever face to get traffic going this way? No. They only face the other way because they get a nice clear shot that way.

And plenty of money.

The cops are the scum of the earth and thats me holding back
for the benifit of those viewing.

Im on 10 points currently all for speeding.

I used to work with the law day in day out, I find speed limits,
the methods of speed enforcement and the waste of public money
thrown at this farsical.

Long ago they lost me as a supporter, I will now only assist them
when it is for the benifit of a member of the public.

I will never ever again go out of my way to help a police officer.

Yes, you are guessing, please learn to read or I'll have to presuppose that you are illiterate.
