No,I very much doubt it.Sorry not to have any more info. Are you an employer in a sensitive (involving kids etc) area? If so I think that there's a CRB form that you could ask to be filled in by a prospective employee.

A guy I used to work with, his brother was a copper. When his partner split with him, his stiched her up criminal record wise and she lost her kids to him.

I'm sure there's a way (do you know any unscrupulous coppers?)

In Scotland you can get information on how to go about this at your any police office. Remember convictions in Scotland are recorded and held by The Scottish Criminal Records Office (SCRO)

Of course they can also gain access to English convictions on CRO.

There is a small fee. If you are are a manager of a company and need to know this information in order to employ people or retain people in employment contact the Disclosure Unit at Force HQ. The ones who get the most enquiries and have loads of expierience are Strathclyde Police 193 Pitt Street Glasgow. 0141-532-2000.

thanks for that, why is it that certain Scottish laws seem more "just" than UK one's but aren't adopted by the UK? like the Scottish real estate system for example.

Damn right too. In 10 years the plan is red hair, beards, prescription whiskey, Queen Anne on the Throne and Westminster abolished. England will be annexed, wales set free (because they boys are brabd new and suffered plenty) and you will all get Mc before your names. This is my plan....Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.....hic!

The serious answer is Scots Law is very old. There is not the same need to legislate as there is in England. I'm no expert in English or Scots Law but in England as I understand it there is legislation for theft.

In Scotland theft is a crime at common law to feloniously appropriate the property of another. To assist in understanding Judges listen to cases on an individual basis and good examples of what is theft and what is not theft are recorded. These become known as case law and can be used in legal argument or decision making as to wether or not a crime has occurred.

As people are prosecuted by the Lord Advocate and only in the interest of the people of Scotland (Procurator Fiscals are his agents)(Scottish Police are just evidence gatherers for the Lord Advocate) then these cases get names like HMA (Her Majestys Advocate)v Smith 1875 SCL245 (for example) The decisions are recorded and as society changes or new cases that have a difference are brought then new case law appears and the law is moulded rather than changed or new legislation drafted. Its actually quite a good system in theory.

One thing I did read (I like my Glasgow history) that I thought was facinating was in the 1870's a wealthy merchant lived in a large victorian townhouse in Glasgow. during the night a housebreaker entered and violated the security of the house (that was the wording in the summary) The merchant heard the intruder and knew that his young family were asleep in bed in other parts of the house. the merchant took a pistol from his room (which he held legally) and confronted the housebreaker wit a single shot that killed him. The merchant sent a servant to fetch a constable. The procurator fiscal also came (still not unusual today) and ordered that the merchant be arrested for murder.

At trial the judge was horrified that the decision had ever been made to arrest the merchant in the first place as he could not see how any crime had been committed. The merchant was immeadiatly discharged. A free man with unblemished character. Ah the good old days. I told Tony Martins supporters that one too.

Look that story up its a cracker. Belmont Crescent Kelvinside, Glasgow.

I am actually going down the route of the local police. They are charging £10 per name check. Disclosures are not cheap, I think there was a registration fee of £35 and then something like £30 per person thereafter.

That sound about right. Can I ask is it for people you are employing? Most managers up here ask people to provide a SCRO check as a condition of employment the fee of which will be refunded if its ok. This gets rid of the chancers.

Oh if anybody sees the Van Driver tell him my taem are on the way. Skirts. Pha.
