I tried to air my feelings but they seem to have let it slip through the net.

Maybe someone else will have more luck.

Funny to see B J Mann is still around and as angry as ever.

KSI data is a fiddle, so this fatality trend might be of help.

1997 73
1998 66
1999 60
2000 64
2001 45
2002 61
2003 63
2004 41
2005 48

For example, the Derbyshire Scamera Pratnership didn't exist in 1997-1999 and there was a sizeable drop in fatalities across those two annual periods. Was it bigger than the (perhaps non-existent) drop in fatalities being shouted about now?

Did the scameras operate in 2001/2002 when there was a sharp rise in fatalities?

Do the rising and falling differences shown here suggest that the current period is just another random variation as you see in these figures?

ETA discovered that the Derbyshire scammers began scamming in 2001, so if they claim a drop now how do they explain the big rise from 2001 to 2002? looks like by their own criteria they existed therefore they killed an extra sixteen people. Tut tut. There was a further rise in 2003 (just added to the table) then another drop to 41 followed by a rise.

There's more about Derbys here and I seem to remember the Chief Constable of Derbyshire's car being stopped for doing 97mph on the M1 in 2004. Ho hum.

[quoute=thisisderby]The partnership's figures also showed that between December 1, 2005, and November 30, 2006, it handed out 40,737 Notices of Intended Prosecution, worth £2,444,220 in fines.

However only 26,103 motorists accepted the offer of a fixed penalty and a total of £1,566,180 had been collected.

The rest of the cases are still working their way through the system.[/quote]

I'm no mathemetician (I work for a bank) but that is only a 64% conviction rate - why are the other 35% going through the court - this seems a high figure (14,000 court cases pending from one year alone??)

The number of people caught by the cameras was up by 679 on the previous 12 months, although last year 30,397 motorists accepted the offered fixed penalty.

So KSI rates fell despite an increase in speeding - what is not making sense to me here?

I think this has to do with people waking up to the potential for not rolling over and/or some staffing problems that may mean delays in sending out followup NIPS etc., where the vehicle is a leased vehicle or the RK has nominated someone else as the driver. If, for example, they have nominated someone of the opposite sex the SCP staff will want to check to see if this might prove contrary to any photographic evidence they may have available.

Things like that.

Probably no increase in speeding - just an increase in the number of cameras in use or the hours available to deploy people to maintain them or, in the case of mobiles, use them.

Looks like they are also deploying mobile gatso activated by embedded loops for certain lucrative sites they wish to visit regularly.

I would imagine that this coincides with testing the options for extending the automated workload when the speed limit review has concluded that most of the roads in Derbyshire should be covered by a 30 limit.
