Grassing up a dangerous driver
Discussion
Witnessed a shocking piece of driving last night - Blind bitch tailgated me at 30 in a 30 limit followed by overtaking (max speed of 45ish) in a residential area past a school while kids were playing on the path. I was so pissed off I followed the mad bitch to her house (just 300 yards after she passed me - WTF was the point of that?) and made a big show of taking her reg and address (she locked herself into the house as soon as she got out of the car). She knew she'd been fcuking stupid because she stuck to the 30 and 20 limits after her overtake.
Will the local BiB do anything if I report her? I'm tepted to go back and nail her hands to her head to stop her driving, purely as a road safety measure.

Given my current feedback from the Plod - they will do absolutely nothing.
However, that said, you might just strike lucky and therefore it is probably worth a try. Go see them and see what they say. You never know you might not be the first and therefore they might have enough evidence to do something....
Cheers,
Paul

I know exactly how you feel. I'm often tempted to take down people's details and go straight to the police. The problem is I can't prove that the other person drove like a maniac and I'm sure the police wont be putting any effort into staking out her house waiting to see what her driving is like.
Unless you got it on video, I'd give reporting her a try but wouldn't bother really chasing it up.
Just like we can get away with the occasional trip over the speed limit, sadly numpties can also get away with seriously dangerous driving.

Deltaf is wrong about Police not being interested. When reality is explained to people that attend (not phone up and expect a visit in the next 15 minutes to vent fury at a uniform) the Police station, they quickly change their minds about making the allegation.
The evidence alone is that of what the complainant saw.
Police will proceed with the matter if the driving was bad enough as in this case it obviously was.
Anyone that I have had anything to do with in the last 22 years in these sorts of incidents is required to go to court to give that evidence. The bad driver does not roll over and put their hands up just because they receive an NIP and a visit from a uniform to explain they have been instigated in the commision of an offence.
You only have to look at the amount of people on this site that try every trick possible to wriggle from photgraphic evidence when their back is against the wall.
A person that is instigated into an offence witnessed by another person where there is no evidence other than what was seen at the time will ALWAYS request a hearing at court and say to the alleging witness "You Prove it then"
When witnesses of such acts are explained the facts that they will in all probablilty have to attend court and sometimes on more than one occasion, they soon get cold feet and suggest that the best way to deal with the incident would be for the officer receiving the complaint to 'Go and have a quiet word'
The problem with this sort of incident is that most people are not prepared to put their money where their mouths are

I must side with Madcop here. A WVM in winnersh tried to force me out of my lane and nearly ran some poor woman shortly off afterward.
I wouldnt have cared if he had got me (company car
) but the woman looked terrified.
I took his plate number, called the police and reported it. They said that if they had any further reports then they would contact me for a written statement.
Judging by his driving that I witnessed in 5 mins it was very likely that he would be reported again.
I understand then polices position as its very hard for them to get evidence. On the other hand I would be much more in favor of abolishing speed cameras and laser vans and spending the money on real "safety" camreas which catch people doing really dangerous things on roundabouts etc and prosecuting them for that.

Cheers - I'm thinking of writing a letter to the BiB and sending a copy to the mad bitch. That should put the wind up her.
I would go to the station in person but it's shut when I'm not at work. It was shut when I got burgled as well, but that's another story.
Too many numpties on the road and not enough BiB ,in my opinion.
Incidentally, for traffic does that stand for Boys in Battenburg?

I wish there were more Police like Madcop and less than the ones I have dealt with. One of my companies drivers had a slight accident and ran into a car. As he got out to swap details the guy in the car in front gave him a pasting. So on my advice he went to the local police who sympathetically took all the details over the assualt and then cautioned him for dangerous driving, for a slight knock. The outcome is around 11 drivers at this branch who now see the police at best useless at worst vindictive. The alarms went of at work in the dead of night three nights in a row, no obvoius sign of break in no faults on alarms. Result letter from Police saying cover withdrawn. I wrote to cheif constable holding him responsible if they did not attend and showing all the logs and the worksheets for testing and cover was reinstated. Local scrote tells me that the cover is withdrawn after 3 activations so they shake the doors set it off wait a week and breakin knowing no police attendance.
It is truely sad that many Police care and deserve our respect, others are carrying out instructions which cause hurt and bad feeling. There is little wonder in some areas Police get no help from an eye witness if they belive the police are not fair and trust worthy.

Similar thing happened with alarm system. I upgraded to sequential triggering. Also, if you do attend and find nothing, make it up that something did happen. i.e. say a window, roller shutter, or door locks letterbox etc was tampered with. Don't admit to it being a (seemingly) false alarm. That way, it was an attempted attack and you cannot be blacklisted IIRC. Still a sequential system saves early morning trips to the office, acting like some kind of swat team with a couple of the lads
With regards to the dangerous driver, it's not difficult to see the Police perspective here. You need witnesses or other proof, as you do in other areas of law.
However, I must say that I have caught a driver's hit and run outside my warehouse on CCTV, and the police have been offered the evidence but have refused to prosecute (I have their correspondence and mine if anyone wishes to see it). Their attitude sincerely was that they did not have the time or resources to deal with what they deemed a trivial matter. I thought it very unfair on the person to whom it happened, although they did send her details of who the vehicle belonged to and their insurance details etc. Still, I think hit and run is supposedly serious offence but there you go.
