Signing of 20 zones and temporary 30 limits
Discussion
Last year a temporary 30 limit was imposed due to roadworks on a road close to me. A camera was used to enforce it. It has been the subject of many letters in the local paper due to the camera being considered a revenue-raiser -- too close to the start of the limit, partially hidden, and with the "30 sign" partially hidden just round a corner as well.
My question on this relates to the "30 sign" point. Should there not be TWO 30 signs at the entry to the limit, even if it is a temporary limit because of roadworks? I'd like to write to the paper to point this out if I'm right.
Similarly, is it the case that TWO 20 signs are required at every entry to a 20 zone? There is a 20 zone in the centre of Leamington Spa but (at least) one of the entries has only 1 20 sign. I believe this invalidates any enforcement? This would be a nice comment to finish my letter!
thanks
Peter

Have a look here:

under Speed Limit Signing Requirements
I thought you needed a sign both sides of the road.
A 20 zone needs speed calming measures too?

30 limits are complex as they are either lit restricted roads, or they are unlit TRO limited / designated restricted roads.
Signage should be on both sides of the carriageway as near as practical to the start of the limit - but there are exceptions to this rule - see TSRGD - GDs 8 and 9. If the limit is a TRO limited road rather than a lit restricted road, then this will provide a statutory defence to the charge of speeding.
