Running out of fuel
Discussion
I believe it is an offence to deliberatly run out of fuel on the motorway but not to accidentlky run out.
Once when I was driving round the M25 I passed the junction before mine with 10 miles left to go and fuel for 50 miles according to the on board computer. 2 miles later I joined a long traffic queue and after about an hour of sitting in traffic barly moving I had used all 50 miles of fuel and the reserve. I ran out in the right hand lane (I thought the reserve was slightly larger so I hadn't moved over just in case). I called the local police control room and let them know and they sent a traffic patrol to stop the traffic and push me to the hard sholder where I had to wait for the AA. The AA then turned up with 2 gallons which was slightly worrying because it was only 35 miles worth and I had just been through 50 miles worth in the queue! The AA guy advised me to stay on the hard sholder until the next exit with hime following behind with his lights on, I don't think he wanted to wait in the queue!
