Collecting 2006 roads fatality data
Discussion
If you see any 2006 road deaths figures, please let me know.
I'm collecting them here: www.safespeed.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11695 or email me at psmith@safespeed.org.uk
So far we have confirmed deaths up in:
Suffolk, Leicestershire, Cumbria, Essex and Grampian.
I have 'to be confirmed' reports of deaths up in Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, North Wales, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk.
The only reports of death reductions so far come from Northern Ireland and Lincolnshire.
It's looking very bad indeed.

Bit early imo, will be another 4 weeks or so before ours are out Paul, partly due to definition of time after the collision.
"Involves personal injury occurring on the public highway (including footways) in which at least one road vehicle or a vehicle in collision with a pedestrian is involved and which becomes known to the police within 30 days of its occurrence. This definition includes collisions involving non-motor vehicles such as pedal cycles and ridden horses on public roads. The vehicle need not be moving and accidents involving stationary vehicles and pedestrians or users are included. One accident may give rise to several casualties."
So figures not actually due to be reported to council yet.

I agree about '30 days' but if no one is critically injured it's likely that a good estimate can be given. Of course that's what's happened in the areas that have already given figures to the press.
But we won't have audited official national figures until June.

Let's say that I'm expecting the council dumbed down summary report
to reveal that a run of
which ended with a :| in 2005 with a return back to ~2004 levels, has continued with 2006 possibly even making a
which is really not at all good. Several fatals in the immediate run up to Christmas (including one SVA with four dead) plus quite a few others just before New Year.
I'll drop you a direct mail soon as I have them, hope that's OK for now.
I'm sure Lincs figures are bad or so it seems according to news on the tv but I don't have figures to confirm. They say Lincs has the most dangerous roads in the country. Some of them are wonderful for fast driving but not everybody can drive, let alone be fast at the same time.

Does this help to confirm for Oxon? Oxford Mail Link
That link states 65 killed , but my local Oxfordshire paper quotes 68 killed in 2006.
My paper quotes "It has been the worst 12 months on the road for 16 years".
"Most of the accidents involve people going round corners too fast"
I wonder how my local scamera partnership will deal with their survey results..

Hmm. Some interesting results there though you have to look at the scale of the graphs carefully rather than take a simple visual comparison.
However overall it looks like very little change over the period which makes one wonder about the survey and the people of whom they ask the questions.

Umm, strongly tempted to print that off ready for when Chatham Steam Fair is on Kent Scameras normally have a big display, shoving that under their noses would be excellent!

This was an open website questionnaire..
AH!
I'm on dial up and when I looked earlier the pie charts did not appear (must've been slow at the time) so I clicked through to the other survey results - which were not an onsite survey.
Very interesting. So the general survey is drifting away from them and the web based survey suggests most people are long gone.
Plus they can't spell which ordinarily would be no big deal but I would have thought they would have taken the trouble to get a few graph legends right.
Oh well, maybe the person doing them was making a statement about their opinion of the survey.
Fatalities on North Yorkshire’s roads have been slashed by 20%. The decrease includes a 38% fall in motorcyclist deaths.
