I know this camera and pass it daily, not only is it directly outside a school, but also a parade of shops and on a stretch of road that in my opinion is all to easy to drive to quickly on for the area it is in. Last summer I was actually in a hardware shop on the parade when a child was hit by a car outside, I did not see the accident with my own eyes so to speculate on speed would be unfair but it certainly happened and shows how dangerous the stretch of road can be. The camera is positioned on an island in the centre of the road, is painted yellow and clearly visable from a long way off. I honestly think its one of very few justifiable cameras. The fact that its been torched will do more harm than good.

It is however in a pikey area and if the local kids get run over, well atleast it might help prevent my Mum getting her handbag snatched so burn the bastard

So if it was on a dangerous bit of road, and very very few accidents are caused by speed, wasn't it's presence actually increasing the risk of another accident??? It can't make cars safer, it just makes everyone else think they're safe...
