I know exactly what the attitude test is, but as an enforcement officer for a different Agency, regularly use it. Whether the general MOP (member of thhe public) know what it is or not I don't know.
If any don't, the attitude test can make the difference between being prosecuted or given a ticking off. If a BiB, or anyone else in authority, tells you that you may have committed an offence, act and respond with respect and dignity and you pass the attitude test. Start gobbing off and show no respect and you fail. Fail equals being reported, pass means, unless the offence is too serious, you don't.

I also agree and have, on occasions, had to apply it. The only problem appears to be that a growing minority of BiB do not apply the same test to their own conduct with the MOP. It is the BiB failing the Attitude Test of the MOP that causes most of the angst and anti BiB feelings growing within society at the moment.
Just my opinion of course but most reasonable people will pass the test when initially addressed politely and with a degree of respect but fail when addressed without any respect or dignity. I am fully aware that in order to have been "pulled", we are on a motoring forum after all, there must be a suspicion of an offence having been committed but until the exact circumstances have been ascertained it is always professional to start of politely. It is much easier to get nasty than recover from a bad start.

It is a shame people don't get the opportunity to go out with police officers and see exactly how they are treated and spoken to by the public ..... it is like you are a piece of dirt on their shoe .... It is sometimes very easy to get reported, but equally easy at times to avoid it if you use your brain and don't start by denying everything and telling the officer they could have done something better with their time.
I have not been out with anyone yet who has been nothing less than amazed at the arrogant and rude way many people speak to the police. Yes, there are bad officers - they are from society after all and the police are no different to any other job - with good and bad .... but it is a shame the health and safety side of things has stopped these 'days out'. I think they did more to enlighten than anything ..... you often don't even get the chance to try and be polite !!
A friend of mine used to say he gave everybody the chance to be spoken to politely - but if they didn't take it then that was up to them
