I travel this route (M1 J30 - M18 J4) daily and one thing has struck me this evening whist crawling through the SPECS controlled area around J32 -J31 southbound....
The SPECS cameras are set up and notices advising motorists of their existence with a 50 limit, BUT - get this,
The southbound carriageway has the final SPECS camera situated some distance AFTER the advisory notice that NSL applies !!!

Question - how can that operate successfully ???

I was going to post this very question.Would be interested to know the answer.TBH I don't see how the last camera can be of any use at all.

Just a guess, but the final camara is probably not in use yet. It will activated as the roadworks progress in that direction. They did this on the M2 last year!

If it's active, they're going to harvest one hell of a lot of cash.

And who would know they'd been scammed...?

Stinks, does this...

not use that route, but maybe a camera in the car with a passenger taking a few pictures or even a movie of the nsl limit and the specs...

It's part of a specs system, the rest of the sets are within the roadworks. How can this last one, about 1/4 to 1/2 mile after the NSL sign be used to compute whether or not anyone went over 50 in the roadworks,or whether anyone has gone over 70 after the NSL sign?

And there was me thinking it was just a(nother) cynical device to catch those who, having stuck to 50 through the roadworks, shot away when the road cleared....glad to hear it was covered on Sat...hopefully a good sign...

I think it might be more likely a plan to get people to drive slower for longer.

Given the huge wads of cash that scamera schemes rob from the public, you'd think that the cover that was fitted on Saturday would be of sufficient quality to last beyond 10:30 on Sunday morning; but no, it was in rag order when I drove, fuming, under the thing.

Look carefully and you'll see that the first camera is now located some 100 yards before the roadworks....

yes

Or at least it was yesterday, early afternoon.

But if the roadworks are "moving south", I guess the empty pole at the southern end could be ready to receive the now redundant spec from the northern end?

The first camera S/bound is now well after the 50 sign. All this smacks of left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.Do you think the cameras that were before/after the 50 signs would have been active?
