The media may soon be carrying the account of a person who received a NIP and went over to the PePiPoo site, as anyone might do, and was then contacted by the police who want him to go to the relevant nick to 'explain himself' in terms of the website interaction.

This is evidence plain and clear that internet sites such as PePiPoo are monitored by BiB and therefore it's reasonable to assume that SafeSpeed and PH are also monitored. If the ABD site had a forum, no doubt tha would be targeted also. All of the above organisations have been featured together in a collective slur from an infamous police document.

It would be interesting to hear the views of PH BiB on this, even as a general theoretical concept. Best case scenario is that this was a particular case with particular features that make a repetition unlikely. Worst case is - unthinkable.

Anyway, beware of LiB (lurkers in blue).

I guess you are being specific about what you are not posting TB, but I take it this is a case of someone having their postings used against them as evidence in a court of law? Or is there another peculiar feature of this that you are able to elaborate on?

I don't know where the information has come from, but I would be surprised if it were not true.
If you air your dirty linen in public then it is likely that someone will notice.
Do the Police monitor this website?
My guess would be Yes.
Does that surprise anyone?

If someone asks for advice on a forum then there is little the police can do.
Unless someone advised him/her to PCJ or similar then once more, little plod can do.
They can ASK you to explain himself, but until he is arrested and cautioned then he doesn't really have to do any such thing. They should NOT be asking him to explain anything without a caution unless they want a PACE defence and their case thrown out. And quite honestly, with the way it goes these days, I imagine if they had any grounds to do anything, they would have done so already.

Just in from someone with a good memory:

www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-1689428,00.html

Steve Callaghan, a safety camera manager, said that the number of drivers trying to palm their motoring offences off on other people was increasing.

“Yesterday six people nominated people of the wrong sex as the offending driver, but we give them the chance to change their minds,” he said.

“We always warn someone if they try to claim they weren’t the driver, and they have the chance to come and see the photos. We know this is going on and one of the things we now do is monitor websites and other drivers’ resources to see what is going on.”

Any system that leads to this is more in keeping with a STASI mentality than a free democracy. Sinister big sticks for minor league matters is no way to operate.

We know they do. One of our BiB number was warned over his posting. I always thought that poster was remarkably helpful and wasn't really off message either !

Interesting that the "Service" always claims to be desperately short of money and claims it is being forced to sack BiBs, but that resources exist to monitor noticeboards and interview Jade Goody.

This would suggest to me not that the Police are short of money, but that it is run by total w*nkers.

Which is one of the reasons why one of first things a new government should do is remove ACPO and its entire membership from policing.

byebye Hello to all at GCHQ....

I guess everything's monitored these days... Forums, chatrooms, emails, texts, mobiles, landlines, faxes, talking cctv, motorway cameras, helicoptor apple eating cameras, and we're soon to be GPS monitored in our cars, and eventually no doubt on our person. And people still support new legislation for this that and the other without realising where it's leading!

We are, and those sleepy souls who are gullible enough will be led by the nose to help the control freaks spin it as needed and welcomed.

Never mind, I'm sure someone will be along in a moment to tell us all it's a democracy, and that if the voting population are too dumb or disinterested to object to living a Stasi like existence then it's all for the best ranting

Internet "noise" has been monitored for years. What I find VERY worrying, is what is NOW being monitored, and at what cost to the taxpayer.

I have no issues whatsoever regarding GCHQ defining an "interesting traffic" policy based around this nation's (and it's occupants) safety.

But monitoring (for example) car forums in order to catch out someone talking about doing X mph on a public highway. Or the chance to prosecute over an alleged Gatso misdemeanour.

Frankly, not only is the mere thought of this ludicrous, but more sinister is the Orwellian image it portrays.

We are already the most surveilled occupants of any Country in the world. What next?

There have been, what, at least a dozen BiBs here. None of them have posted anything really bad at all. On a couple of occasions they have posted things which gives an idea of what the job is really like (along the lines of PC Copperfield) ; e.g. a couple of posts about "what should I do today ?" and a fascinating post by a Sarge detailing what his men have actually done on a shift.

I got pestered by a bloke *twice* regarding our local hospital on our local papers message board ; he offered me a private tour of the Hospital (honest !). Discover later that this guy is the Head of PR for the Trust ; I'm just an ordinary MoP. Whatever the rights and wrongs, this guy does not have enough to do. I know for a fact (DW is a Nurse) that staff are being cut everywhere they can get away with it.

It's pathetic. The saddoes who monitor this really think that (i) most people believe their fairytales (ii) if they can just control the message (shut up cops posting here) then everyone thinks everything is wonderful.

Reality: we know it is cr*p and the PR units lie continually. The BiBs who post on the internet tell us why.

I suspect the police monitor this website more to catch their own out (internal affairs style) rather then to catch out us random posters.

Of course, anyone caught perverting the course of justice in the process of monitoring this site is fair game also!

I think the first primary targets will be all who disbelieve the Global Warming propaganda. After that the rest will fall into line and the road safety issues will be resolved by taking people off the roads. Hence the Greens in the EU calling for reduced maximum road speeds across the 'Community' common to all countries (along with road signs, etc. And language perhaps? Finnish would get my vote ...)

Of course what they are saying is that slowing down will save the planet and save lives for, as we know, imposing a maximum speed limit of 130kph means all speed related accidents will magically disappear. (Sometimes I think these people ought to be FORCED to learn to drive before they receive any salary.)

As for monitoring - it certainly seems like a sledgehammer to crack a not very important know, in the case of a NIP. Probably much worse in the USA though and not just through the use of internet traffic and phone taps.

SO, we really nead a PH Enigma code system and maybe a secondary comms system based on pigeons. Clearly the alleged evidence freom Downing street suggests that secret military 'strangth' networks are not much use for keeping stuff privet even if you run the country!

RE above post, there is always STEGANOGRAPHY in which the presence of the message is also obscured by the encryption!

Further, that law is an ass; you can criminalize anyone by emailing them an encrypted file without the key.
