Whats is the law regarding fitting fiddle brakes in a road car. i've been told they are illegal but i can't see why.

For those that are wandering it is some thing that can be fitted to offroader so you can lock one back wheel and using the diffs and steering sort of turn tank like round the back wheel. Works the same as a hydraulic handbrake by sending pressure to one wheel only. Normally by pulling a lever in the cab

Ive only ever seen something like that on a road going JCB
and then a ing great latch secures both L + R brake pedals together

preventing amusing braking in traffic

I once drove a (old type) Fiat 500 that had this type of braking system......

Well it seemed like it anyway as one side braked stronger than the other, resulting in the car 'spinning' under heavy braking yikes

I'm sure that car would not have passed an MOT test.

I's say no but you'd have to study "construction and use" in great detail and it's very boring to read

fiddle brakes are ok as some land rovers have them.

as long as you are using totally seperate systems for brakes (ie you have extra calipers) and you are using the transmission brake then they haven't got any reason to complain.
