Hello everyone, I have just been wondering if anyone has been travelling along the M56 through the Runcorn viaduct 40mph restriction? I had a fine just before christmas estimating average 54mph. (and 3 points)
I travel this route most days and most of the traffic is passing me at a much higher speed (i am definatly keeping to 40 or under) and was just wondering how many people have actually had a fine along this stretch of road??

If you think an injustice has been done, get over to www.pepipoo.com and fight back!

Sorry, I'm a southerner - you wouldn't catch me dead in Runcorn!

Travel that route every day, I travel through at 40-42 & bored, no ticket yet... the daughter forgot once, told me she flew through at 80 in the early hours ...nothing came through the post.

On another M56 point. Anyone else here see that prison van going towards Chester every morning, has a bigger Police escort than the PM! Must be surrounded by at least 7 or 8 cars.

Actually there was some stories about the cameras on the runcorn bridge (I'm presuming we're talking about the same thing) being faulty just before christmas. Lots of people wrote into the local free rag and said they had been flashed without speeding. I don't usually get the free paper but it's called the Halton somethingorother if you want to look it up.

Runcorn Weekly News and the World are the two local comics.

I used to live in Runcorn, pretty much grew up there, so glad i live as far away as possible from it now, still, I do miss my old local pub but even thats changed now.

Thanks for your replies and i did take a look at the website, thing is sometimes i have been going a little faster than 54 on other motorways so 54 seems like i am parked up!!!! rofl I just cant understand all the cars passing me when i am doing the speed they want??? And i agree runcorn is erm.........well what can i say about runcorn?? (its only because they keep changing their minds about the finish of the roadworks its gonna be April now - not sure if they mean 2007 lol)

we talking about the m56 between j12 and j10? a right pain in the proverbial. they said the other week that the layout of the roadworks was being changed to alleviate the chaos at rush hour, still waiting. as regards the cameras, i find that everyone sticks to the limit whenever i'm there so cant comment. however i did see an immaculate green 3 series on the hard shoulder a couple of weeks ago. x (2000) reg with the added pop up sign on the rear parcel shelf... cheshire police being nearly as sneaky as the heddlu ( black speed camera van anyone?)

Right - it's the Weaver Viaduct. M56 roadworks start just before J12 and end before J11 - about 3.4 miles. Close to Runcorn/Widnes, but nothing to do with the Runcorn Bridge.
The time added to your trip at 40 rather than 70 is 2.2 minutes.

Admittedly, it would help if there was more than three men "working" on the entire thing mad

I will bear that in mind Vaux, but how do you explaine a 30min journey now takes anything between 45 and 60mins i may be blonde but that does not quite add up!!!!! rolleyes

The specs cameras have been there for months now.

It amazes me just how many people seem to fly through there, unless they swop lanes as they run through the various cameras.

I live near Delamere Forest but work on Widnes.

Runcorn/Widnes is still the arsehole of Cheshire sadly because the folk there deserve better.

Sounds like you stayed in lane. You need to make sure you never pass a set of camera's in the same lane twice.

Lane swapping doesn't make a difference now. They changed the style of cameras a while back and the back-office computer compares all cameras!

I thought the reason you could swap lanes and get away with it was that the SPECS system has only been type-approved for passing both cameras in the same lane?

Ahh - but do they have type approval?

Ah. Well. My model only works if they leave all three lanes open. They've been particularly crass in shutting down lanes.
My only tip is to get into lane 3 early (if you're allowed) and use the contraflow lane.

And have a look here:

Sometimes helps with planning

Do they speed past you at the start of the 40 limit? That's quite normal as the first SPECS camera eastbound is quite some distance into the restriction.
But most drivers I see (and I can drive this 6-8 times a day) comply rigidly.
Except foreigners.

There used to be a pub in Warrington called 'The Tut & Shive' and, in the gents loo, was written on the wall 'Keep Warrington tidy - dump all your rubbish in Widnes'

- and they do!

I'm a northerner and I work about 1/2 a mile from said roadworks.

Runcorn is possibly one of the worst northwest new towns, down there with skelmersdale and kirkby, and croxteth.

Full of white trash. I Can't bullshit.
