Driving along the M40 today, bugger all traffic on the road, and the speed edged over the ton. Saw a car and some people on a bridge ahead, and for some reason didn't slow down - didn't think it was police, and I wasn't hurting anyone. Frankly, I couldn't be bothered slamming the brakes on as I was driving in a sensible manner (albeit over the speed limit!). As I got closer, looked like this guy was filming me. Thought shiiiiiiiiiiit, but didn't slow down and carried on. Have I got a nice ban to come, or was it Spielberg getting footage for his new movie?

Hopefully for you it was a number plate scanner for checking valid road tax.

was it actually someone holding a camera?

Yeah, there was definitely someone holding a camera and aiming at me. There was a white car parked up on the bridge next to him, but it wasn't a marked police car. The guy wasn't wearing uniform. I'm really hoping it was the road equivalent of a train spotter!

speed cameras / ANPR and others are usually set up on tripods

they dont have the holding the camera - (shakey hands form all that holiday wine!)

I think IMHO that you had someone "spotting"

Lets hope so
14 days to wait?

I suppose there could be a group out there who get kicks putting shits up people by filming on bridges?
A power thing?
Maybe theyll join the CSO's

Same thing happened to me on Friday. Car on bridge, but no visible cameras/plod, window on car was not even down, but could not see inside, as windows were tinted. Hope it was not unmarked plod with a kodak, as I could also be looking at a ban if it was.

Bearing in mind that most hand held speed measurment devices are Laser It doesn't really matter if you'd slowed when you saw them 'cos they most probably saw you first. Sorry. Mojo.

Edited to say--The most accurate (I believe) descrption I have heard yet of traffic speed measurement came from a constable from fife constabluary...

"IT'S LIKE SHOOTING FISH IN A BARREL"

Think about that for a couple of minutes, really, if they can see you they can get you. MoJo.

Chances are if your speedo said just over a ton you were probably doing about 90. 3pts and £60.

Do these laser guns have sights on them or anything. At some distance it must be hard getting them focused on the car in question.

Do they not have to "pull" you though, after using the laser measuring device?

That's what I was thinking, but I guess the answer is no. I'm gonna be bricking it when the post arrives each morning. Am seriously thinking of selling the Griff if I get a ban - it's just not worth being into sports cars in this country!

W@anker(s), whoever it/they were; I agree there probably is a strand of guppy humanoids out there who like to park (quite illegally, of course), on flyovers, just to be asininely bloody minded.

But it's a basic rule, when veloceraptoring on m-ways, unless you have full sight to a clear horizon, be circumpsect.

Remember, we are dealing with d1ckweeditus here, which is all about cheating you out of money and freedom as scurrilously as possible.

Some of the geezers were having this discussion earlier: do the BiB and their masters not have a clue about the sheer resentment 'technical' speed persecution causes amongst the ranks of otherwise perfectly law abiding masons?

Knight Security vans parked in the layby at the bottom of the hill on the A625 into Sheffield with one of the (yeellow and orange striped) back doors open deserve the RPG7 treatment IMHO "Agggggghhhhhhh Talivan" thinks I as I brake from 95 to 55 ASAP, but no-pikey just security guard having a piss, phew !

If they got me, then I'm going to have to sell the Porsche, as I won't be able to afford the insurance with a ban, its steep enough as it is.

Wish I had not changed my mind about installing one of those jammers now!!!! What will be will be, can't do anything about it now.

Hey man, stop worrying about it UNTIL it happens (IF).
You're already 1/2 way to where they want you to be with that attitude!

Could always be a TV crew filming the traffic on the road for their non news item about holiday traffic.
