M1, junction 29, southbound, Friday 2 March 0600hrs, before dawn.

Pushing on a bit through the trucks...spotted blue beacon behind in lane 3 making more than a little progress.

Moved over and slowed down.

It was a Transit sized van, maybe Merc Sprinter, dark colour (green/blue/black?), no markings, double blue beacon inside on the dashboard, no siren.

Passed me at 100+

What the hell was it..?

I've heard british special forces have a couple of supercharged transits that can do 120ish, for nipping to seiges and stuff. Though i dont think anything of that sort happened on the 2nd or we'd have probably heard about it. scratchchin

I had err... access... to an ex Rover V8 engined LDV until recently. Ex Bomb Disposal, ex AERE Harwell. It would do 117 on the motorway too ! AND ONLY 14 MPG

And I thought the only way a LDV would do 117mph was if you pushed if off a cliff....

It would undoubtedly be a Sprinter.
A five cylinder turbo diesel Sprinter will cruise at 120MPH, providing it has the correct tyres fitted.
