As a lot of us MoPs do quite a few miles and probably have close encounters with PH Bib, there might be some mileage
in a thread like the 'supercar spotters' one on GG, but with plod spotters instead. With no wish to compromise the operational efficiency of speedwatch programmes it shouldn't be necessary to give the full reg no's and as some have appeared like this including from bib occasionally I thought I'd start the ball rolling and ask if anyone on here was inside these stealth wagons:
Dark BMW in London, Bloomsbury / Southampton Row, seemed interested in a red Porsche 911 Turbo S at the same time I was interested in the beemer, but this may have been a coincidence and they were just admiring the porker's broad flanks and rear wing. No pull while i was watching them. DV05 F?F
Grey Volvo on M62 near Bradford J56 E?E tucked in behind me but got bored and went past, then floored it. Naughty
Seemed a bit old for unmarked plodcar being on a J plate unless I missed a letter or one was obscured due to road grime, but the blues were glinting behind the grille and other signs seemed right.
Silver Skoda on M40 nr J7 OU 05 E?P and seemed interested in a Vauxhall at the time I was nearby, again no idea if this was a coincidence as you both went past me and i turned off.

Not unheard of....
Derbyshire/Notts use an old, black Accord Type R on the M1 around J25/26.
Driven by a Class 1 Tosser....nearly wiped four of us out at a stroke, pulling a Lexus.

Lancs Police take the biscuit, they have newish Range Rovers...Suburu impretza's...Merc's, BMW's....I see the MET have a Lamborghini Murcielago !! Oh to be a police officer.....oh to spend the Tax Payers money efficiency!
Oh you really are on a wind up. The Lambo was a publicity stunt well covered in these forums.
The police also have octavias, 206, fabia, astra to name a few.. Its horses for courses. As someone who obviously knows so much you would also thus know the police get huge discounts on certain makes and the specs are lower. They also hold together for the high miles have better crash ratings and have better residuals thus reducaing the cost. All forces employ fleet managers who are civilians who are penny pinchers so would not waste your money don't worry. Its also why we don't have the best stab vests money can buy or the best radio system.
Its worked on you hasnt it!!
I wasnt aware it was a publicity stunt, really did think the MET had gone bonkers, (wouldnt surprise me in this world) but thank you for pointing it out, i stand corrected, and will never mention it again.

For starters, it's Lancashire "Constabulary", not Lancashire "Police".
Lancashire do not have Subarus or BMWs as traffic cars.
Lancashire did previously use Mercedes MLs on the motorway, but they were phased out and replaced with Range Rovers, which in turn are currently being phased out and replaced with Land Rover Discoveries and Volvo S60s (diesel as well). There are still a number of diesel MLs in use on Divisions as ANPR vehicles.
The only Range Rovers are on the motorway, with the exception of a diesel one that's used by the HQ public order team as a command vehicle. I think the only two Mercedes on the motorway fleet have also gone. Part of the motorway funding comes from central government, and as has already been pointed out, the vehicles are heavily discounted, as it's good advertising for the manufacturers.
Divisional traffic cars are Ford Mondeos or Vauxhall Vectras, which are both "Police spec", not top of the range models.
You may be surprised to hear that those driving the vehicles do not choose them; they are chosen by a fleet manager, from a list approved by PSDB/HO.
Dibble
me old china
would you like the registrations?
God.....chill out..........
They have a silver MERC ESTATE starts with PF04 ....
They have a light blue Range Rover (not the Sport) think its BX05...

If I was so sad and desperate to need to know the registrations, I'd ring them up and ask.
It's only the motorway unit that have these types of cars (as I pointed out in my original post).
I can never see the point of these threads, sorry turbobloke but there it is, nothing personal, and seeing as it's you will give an automatic exemption from final para.
To avoid needing the information contained within "Let's list unmarked plod" threads this week's top tip from Villa FiF is
Don't drive like a knob. Sorted.

I think what TB was trying to suggest was not a list of un-marked cars but to see if people can put up posts of police marked or otherwise doing things and as such see if the officer concerned posts here. TB if I'm wrong correct me.
Slightly off topic, however, waiting to get onto the M5 last night a fully marked police focus estate pulled up along side. It looked totally normal,I had a look, and noticed huge ventilated disks on the front. They looked more at home on a Lambo than a focus estate plod car. The rest of it from the outside was totally normal from my pespective.
Does anyone know what it was/would be used for?

Sadly, that's a pointless statement.
One can drive perfectly safely, in a manner deemed legal in Germany, and be incarcerated for so doing in the UK....

No I think you're right mr_annie_vxr, that appears to be TB's intentions.
May it please the court to point out the mitigating circumstances that the thread deteriorated into the same old same old rather quickly. About post no 2 actually.

Yes that was the idea.
I/we must be a lane away from several PH BiB on a regular basis and never know.

True, but why just unmarked? Why not...
V70 stopped on M42 with a Polish truck, jeepers was it lashing down, you looked well drowned, anyone on here?
Sorry, fully admit was grumpy yesterday due to encountering a load of stuff from individuals with more chips than Harry Ramsdens, but maybe just seeing things differently than the PH general masses. Back in my corner.
