He should never have been to court in the first place, and if he did, it should have been for speeding rather than dangerous.

Why do you say he shouldn't have gone to court?

Because from the description of events I've seen in the press, I don't think he was necessarily in the wrong. It looks like the High Court agrees, too.

The write-up says
BBC said:
District Judge Peter Wallis found him guilty after ruling his driving skills were "irrelevant" to the case.

But two High Court judges have said the district judge "misdirected himself" and told him to look at the case again.

District Judge Wallis, sitting at Ludlow Magistrates' Court, found him guilty last August.

Lady Justice Smith and Mr Justice Gross, sitting at London's High Court on Friday, sent the case back to him to decide whether "Pc Milton's unusual driving skills were such as to make a crucial difference to the dangerousness of his driving".

Lady Justice Smith said: "It seems to me that this matter is of considerable importance to both sides of the dispute."

So it seems that Lady Justice Smith is suggesting that skill has a bearing on whether driving is dangerous or not.

"...and on that bombshell..."

This is great news! Where can I sign up to the course this chap used to gain his "exceptional" driving skills? I'd quite like to be able to drive about at 159mph (in an unfamiliar vehicle) with impunity too.

Come to think of it, my 911 is much better than a Vectra AND I'm already familiar with it. Does that mean I could do 190 please?

I wonder if you polled on here what proportion of people would not believe they already had "exceptional driving skills" scratchchin

I am not suggesting that supermono does not - just wondering

I don't That's why I had to buy a 911 turbo -- my granny could drive that fast...

Your average chav can drive that fast too - its driving fast without endangering someone thats the ticklish bit. And the 15 million computers in a porsche don't help much with that.

Maybe so, maybe not - I would imagine that PASM is of some use at high speed. That's before we mention carbon brakes, 4wd etc, etc.
The most dangerous thing is that this idiot was taking the Vectra (which doesn't have great brakes, 4wd, pressure sensors etc) to absolutely it's limits (and arguably beyond). Sorry but that's not a wise thing to do on a public road full of less able drivers, class 1 driver or not.
