Just driving back from filling up with optimax and the laser detector went mental on the Valentine One. Further investigation revealed a blue lamp post with two heads and a loop ariel on the top. The heads were about 10"x8" and pointing down to the road in opposite directions (one for each lane).

I think (hope) that it was probably a traffic counter but some reassurance that it wasn't a revenue collector would be nice...

Anyone know what this is?

Thank **** for that .

Yes it looked very similar to that. It set off the laser alert the three times I drove past it - just to make sure.

Not completely sure but I seem to remember my friend whose brother works for Trafficmaster told me they use laser to detect the speed the traffic is flowing at, with some sort of software algorithm to average it out. They're not used for enforcement purposes though (thankfully).

I'm afraid paranoia got the better of me, but i'm alright now .

No other cars around and it tripped the V1 again.

Thanks for your replies...

Al.

Ah ......dunno bout the laser part, my snoopers never gone off approaching one...
They do use ANPR though to track you a short distance before supposedly dumping the gained info.
I reckon it wont be so long before it gets perverted into a speed/tracking system.
Spare tyres at the ready then....

I thought I read somewhere that TM were working with the Govt in order to scan numberplates as they go past abd then calculate speed between readings on motorways and major trunk roads as they already have the infrastructure in place.

bad news if they do
