I have read on these pages that some people would prefer to be given a 2 week ban instead of the points...

1/ Does a ban clear all points off your licence?
2/ What are the insurance implications? i.e. If you accept the ban to avoid the points how long do you have to declare the ban for... and are the insurance companies likly to charge you more in the long or the short term (or both)?

No a ban does not clear all points from your license, however generally you do not get extra points aswell as a ban.

Insurance. You must declare whatever the insurance company stipulate. Some ask for points/bans in the last 5 years, some 3 years etc. Failing to declare makes your insurance invalid, if found out!!

My experience of a ban (3 weeks) was that it didn't really add much to the insurance paid. A few quid only. On my bike, I informed them at the same time I moved house - move cost me £40 increase, ban cost me £10 increase.

I do however have an otherwise clean license.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Mark
